lol awww only 5 weeks left, lucky you! i still have 14 weeks and 5 days left, not that im counting or anything. i had my fundus height measured at 24 weeks and 5 days, and my baby girl was measuring 26cm already! Ahhh thats over a week ahead, im so scared of pushing out anything over 8lbs, so i can understand how you feel! what was your fundus heights? how do you know she'll be a big baby?

Lauren_Jay, how do you measure the fundus height, or did they do it at the doctors?

they measure fundus height at the doctor ... but I'm pretty sure it's from your pubic bone to the top of your fundus... like the top of your bump?
but if I have that wrong somebody please correct me!!

haha Vanessa hun I know how you feel, well minus the big baby, my girl was measuring about 6 and a bit last appoint.
It's really funny ... because there hasn't been a week or check up that my fundal height hasnt matched up with how many weeks I am.
I'm still kinda small in the belly (not very small but compared to other woman who are almost 37 weeks!)

I know how uncomfortable you are though! It's not fun... does she sit high in your belly?
My girl still sit's very high so I have the worst time sitting down ... it feels like so much pressure on my lungs and ribs ... I just want the uncomfyness to go away, she can stay in there longer so she gets nice and huge, she just needs to be a bit nicer to mommy.

Plus... you can't get her out yet , hubby's still away!
Just a few more weeks!
Almost there!

well the fundus height doesn't tell you how big the baby is, it tells how many weeks you're measuring. don't they measure you at your appointments? you're supposed to be the same amount of centimeters as how many weeks you are, but it's normal to be or - 2cm.

also, ultrasound measurements aren't exact either. they can be off by 2 pounds in either direction. i had an u/s at 37 weeks and they said he would be over 10 pounds when he was born. then i had one the night before my induction and they said he was measuring a little over 10 pounds. he was 8lbs 5oz when he was born.

Wouldn't how many weeks I am measuring tell me pretty much how big he is? Thats what I am talking about.

And no, the last time I knew how big he was was at 17 weeks at my last ultrasound. They don't measure me.

my doc didn't measure my fundal height regularly until after 30 weeks. They can only really tell how big your uterus is from that not how big the baby is. They can palpate and feel the baby inside your uterus but that really only tells them the length and position of the baby and that isn't totally accurate. The more experienced your doctor the better they will be at estimating the size from palpation and external measurements, but that's all it is, a guess. I had a scan a week ago and they measure the circumference of the baby's abdominal area to guess the baby's weight. They told me just under 5 pounds, so if baby keeps growing at the regular rate, I'll end up with an 8 pounder. But still, it's only an estimate.

ive had 5 ultrasounds(all of which 4d) and my midwife has been doing this for about 30 years so i trust her opinion.. i had the 4d u/s done at 31 weeks and she already had soo much chub on her face plus im measuring big so yea.. plus i was 12 and a half pounds and no one in my family has had a child under 10lbs.. my mom with all 4 of us and my sister with her 2 and neither had diabetes.. plus im about 5'10 and her daddy is 6'3 220

She is as up high as she can possibly be! OUCH!!! i just got the worst night of sleep in my life last night.. i can barley eat and i now cannot sleep.. I just cannot wait for her to drop.. hopefully it wont be too much sooner.. It hurts to wear any sort of a bra and its so so painful to sneeze.. it feels like i have broken ribs and it has for about the last 5 weeks.

haha brian has a talk with her before he left telling her shes not allowed to come out for awhile.. then he begged me not to go into preterm labor.. lol. i have a feeling i will have to be induced.. again my mom was with all 4 of us ( i was actually induced 2 weeks early)
and my sister with both of hers (both at 41 weeks plus) so i just have a feeling she wont be coming out on her own. Im just hoping i dont have to get a c section and ill be happy. Im trying to hard not to take anything for the pain but i might have to right now.. I cant bare to sit up right now so i better sign off..

Vanessa- if you are measuring that big I am pretty sure that they will induce you whenever they feel it is safe. They estimate that my baby will be between 8-9 lbs so I think that I will be allright to have him without induction. My sister went 3 weeks early last week so maybe you will too! Her baby was 7 lbs 14 oz and has had no complications. Well, except that she came out too fast so she bruised horribly and because of that got jaundiced really bad. Now I understand why birth class instructor said they can come too fast.

Kaer- I am surprised at how late your dr's started mearsuing your fundus height. Mine has been measuring it everytime I have come in since my first appointment. I always measure ahead but my dr always says that is fine. In my u/s the baby also measures ahead too, but I am starting to think that the baby might actually be a little further along then everyone thinks. I can remember the night that I thought I conceived and it was a little earlier. Also, my family is notorious for ovulating early. Many, many babies have been conceived in our family because of relatives trying to use the rhythm cycle.

Bridget- you are so right about the u/s being off though. They told me sister that her baby was only 6 lbs at 37 weeks and she didn't believe them (her previous 2 had been 11.5 and 10.7). She begged for an induction they gave it to her and she had an 8.3 pounder. Yeah, I don't think I am going to be putting much stock in those.

Sorry this is sooooo long Smile

She was measuring it before, just not on every visit. I may have missed out on some of the regular kind of care poeple get though because I was in hospital for a while and was healing from that for a while. I hadn't thought of that but I guess if you're healing from surgery they aren't likely to poke around unless they have to (thank god - cuz that would have hurt).

I am praying that I will go into labour on my own. I've heard that it is a lot more painful when you have to be induced and it's more likely that you'll have more pain meds and interventions. I can see why you would want to if your baby is that big though. Holy cow. I thought I was a big baby and I was just over 9 pounds. Guess it helps if you're tall. I'm only 5'7.
