Heavy period after I stopped taking Ortho tri cyclen lo
Posted: 06-06-07 08:21am

I started taking Ortho on the first day of my period. I took it for three days and then I stopped because I felt very ill and I was EXTREAMLY bloated - so much I couldn't even fit in my pants. I do not want to take the pill. I only took if for three days so I thought it would be ok to stop it mid cycle. It's been 10 days later and my period has literally started all over again! I have breast tenderness, bloating, and a lot of blood. How long will this last? Is this normal? I know it's because I stopped mid cycle but will this be OK?

It seems quite likely that everything will be OK. When you stopped taking the birth control pills you created a sudden decrease in estrogen hormone levels in the blood which can provoke a new menstrual period. In other words, it seems that you created a temporary hormonal dysbalance in your body that provoked a functional bleeding from the uterus. Hormonal balance will be probably be established soon and then the bleeding should stop. If it doesn’t stop, you can visit a gynecologist for an examination and advice.
