Chlamydia-pid

i've been diagnosed with chlamydia and PID. I am currently taking doxycycline 100 mg twice a day. Will doxycycline clear up both the chlamydia and PID? Another question I have is my boyfriend mentioned that he was tested through his urine. He is saying that he is negative for Chlamydia. (I have yet to see the results in black and white.) Is this possible since we've been together for the last six months? And since I haven't had another partner in the last 5 years (Yes, 5 long years) is it possible for me to have had this for the last 5 years only for it to show up now? I haven't had symptoms relating to the chlamydia. The only thing I've noticed is the symptoms from the PID. I also have an IUD which was inserted around 5 years ago. Is it possible that he has been asymptomatic with chlamydia? Also, if his results are negative is it still necessary for him to be treated?

Antibiotics should clear up both chlamydia and pid. .P.I.D is a result of your chlamydia going untreated for too long. It is completely possible that you have had chlamydia for 5 years without knowing. Chlamydia itself doesn't typically have symptoms, but pid can result in permanent damage and possible fertility.

You should be having annual pap smears, which would have detected chlamydia and prompt treatment would have prevented pid.

If you and your partner have been having unprotected sex then it is extremely likely he has it too, and should be treated regardless.

Avoid having sex at all or use condoms while you're both taking the antibiotics. Then you should be scheduled for another test to confirm that the chlamydia is completely gone (sometimes 1 round of antibiotics isn't enough).

If your partner has it (which is extremely likely) and doesn't get treated, he will just give it back to you.... then left untreated your pid could get worse.

Since you are sexually active you should be having annual pap smears.

I am kind of concerned as to what is wrong with your doctor for not explaining more in detail about the antibiotics. Also...did you not have your iud removed??? If you have pid and/or clamid. you need to have that removed or it can cause serious serious problems in your uterus and the infection can manifest itself. That is a huuuuuuuge concern with people who have iuds that is why they do not like to insert them in women who are not in a monogomous relationship. There is no way you had this infection for 5 yrs. the infection would have gotten so bad. They generally say within the last 3-6 months. To be honest if you are having unprotected sex with your partner for years...I don't see how he couldn't have it. Sounds to me like maybe he got it from going outside of the relationship on you and is afraid to admit he has it because then you would know where it came from. Just my opinion though.

The doctor didn't explain much about the antibiotics. The IUD has not been removed yet. It was mentioned by my (new) gyne that it should be removed when I have my next menses. I have been in a monogomous (or so I think) relationship in the last six months. Prior to that I was... "not getting any." My last relationship ENDED five years ago. Is there a chance he could have had it but not have known it (have been asymptomatic in the last 6 months.) I know I'm reaching but I want to make sure I do my homework before I come out with guns blazing. Thanks much.

According to the Centre For Disease Control:

Chlamydia is known as a "silent" disease because about three quarters of infected women and about half of infected men have no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they usually appear within 1 to 3 weeks after exposure.

So yes, you or your partner could have chlamydia for any period of time and have no symptoms. Here is a link to the .C.D.C info on chlamydia.
