Throat infection ?: phlegm + bad breath odor in AMs
Posted: 06-07-07 07:49am

Hello,

Since about 3 years I have serious problems with my voice. Its quality is related with an amount of the phlegm in my throat and nose. I have much of it all day in my body. Here are my symptoms in the summary:

- much phlegm in throat (especially in the morning);
- voice problems - not so serious in the morning, worse from afternoon to the evening. Symptoms: hoarseness, dullness, higher tone;
- the best betterment after antibiotics therapy, but really short-term;
- good shape of voice one day after alcohol consumption (no phlegm) for a few hours;
- complete decline of falset;
- rheum almost 24h;
- discomfort while speaking, feeling of pressure in larynx area;
- strange feeling while drinking cold fuzzy drinks (hiccup-like);
- scratch feeling in throat with citrus drinks;
- unpleasant smell from mouth (especially in the morning, with the greatest amount of phlegm in throat);

Please help, because doctors in my country don't know how to treat that.

Voice problems could indicate that the larynx has been affected. Phlegm in the throat and nose, especially in the morning, is typical during chronic inflammations of the upper respiratory tract ... probably sinuses (sinusitis). An unpleasant smell or odor from the mouth in the morning supports the possibility of having upper respiratory tract inflammation. Inflammation could be due to infection, allergy or irritation. Sometimes all 3 factors can be involved in developing chronic inflammation of the sinuses and throat. A rhinoscopy, laryngoscopy, X-ray image of the sinuses and microbiological smear from the nose and throat will be probably requested in order to diagnose the condition. You can consult an ENT specialist for expert opinion, diagnostic procedures, and advice about the condition.
