Tyler Is Here!
Posted: 06-07-07 19:52pm

I just wanted to let everyone know that my little man was born on May 29th and he is now 9 days old. I had contractions for 4 days and I was not dilating so at my appt. on the 29th my doctor did the non stress test that I was getting twice a week because I was in a high risk pregnancy and he decided that he wanted me to go to the hospital and get monitored there because Tyler's heart rate wasn't fluctuating as much as they would like it to and I also had a ultrasound after that and the ultrasound tech. looked at me with the widest eyes ever said I just measured your baby 3 times and I am coming up with his weight being 11 lbs!!!!!!! I asked her if she was serious and she said very. She went and gave the doctor the news and then the nurse came in and said that the doctor wanted me to wait in one of the rooms while he talked to the other doctors and so I did and I waited for what seemed like hours. The doctor finally came back in and told me that I would have to have a c-section, which was my worst fear about child birth and that I needed to go ahead and go to the hospital, so we did. I was put on the monitors and put in a room and no one would answer my questons about what was going to happen untill about 5 hours latter, when the nurse came in and told me that I would be having my c-section in about 2 and a half hours. When I finally got taken to the surgery room I got a spinal block, the spinal block was not really painful at all but it did make me pretty sick. About 15 min. latter after they knew I was completely numb they cut me open and said "it's a boy" I did not get to touch him or hold him after he was born. I could see him and hear the way his cry sounded and I was pretty convinced that there was some thing wrong with his lungs and I kept asking all the doctors and nurses if his lungs were okay and they all told me that he was fine. Well, come to find out, his lungs are not okay. He was born at 36wks and 5days into my pregnancy 8:06pm and weighed 9lbs 4oz. Latter the next day I was told that my son was on a ventalator at 100% oxygen and that his body was developed just fine but his lungs were still pretty premature. He is now in the NICU at Arkansas Childrens Hospital and he has been here for 8 days of the 9 he has been alive. He has been diagnosed with pulmonary Hypertension, but his is doing much much much better than he was after he was born. His legs were dark purple/blue after he was born and we were told that it was because his body was taking care of his vital organs at the moment and latter when his body thought that they were taken care of then his body would send the blood to his legs and they would turn normal color. Two days after being in the NICU and being on oxygen and Nitric (sp?) ox. his legs were a normal color. His oxygen has been getting weaned since about monday and he is now down to 34% oxygen from 100% and 10% nitric oxide from 20%. he is starting to wake up more but he hates the vent tube being in his throat so after his is awake for awhile he will start to gag on it and he has to be put to sleep so that he doesnt hurt himself by pulling the vent tube out or coughing to much and making the tube come out of place. I still have not been able to hold my son and it breaks my heart. I would appreciate any kind words, thoughts and prayers that you are willing to offer up for my little boy, they are all appreciated. Thank you in advance for your prayers and I will update everyone again on his condition soon.

Congratulations on the birth of Tyler. I just can't even imagine going through what you have been experiencing. Not being able to hold your child??? I am glad he seems to be doing a bit better. I am a little surprised that he was almost at term yet his lungs were still premature. I am just so sorry. He sounds like he weighed quite a bit!! I pray that you can take home your little one soon.

Take care and please keep us updated!!

thanks to everyone, your kind thoughts and words have realy helped lighten my dark days. Tyler is doing better now, almost every day he makes a improvement. He started feeds yesterday and came off of the vent. today. So far he is doing good off of the vent. (keeping my fingers crossed) I will update again as soon as I can. Again thank you all for your kind words and prayers.
