Crooked Bite / Gaps In My Teeth When I Bite Caused By Splint Posted: 06-08-07 21:28pm
I have been wearing a splint to correct my
bite and now that my jaw has been brought
forward to the correct position if I take
off my splint and bite my teeth together,
they touch in the back but as you can see
by the pics there are a lot of gaps in my
bite. I've had braces in the past and a
retainer after that, I was supposed to
keep wearing my retainer at night forever
but I lost it probably 2 years ago, as you
can see my teeth look pretty bad and I
think this is causing swallowing problems
and contributing to TMJ overall.
I am wondering if anyone knows what needs
to be done to correct my teeth, should I
ask to have a retainer made or should I go
to my dentist and have my teeth ground to
correct the bite? Any advice is
appreciated.

it looks like fronterior
apertognathia.(fronterior open bite) and
it also looks like you have a slight under
bite. personally if I were you Id go see
an oral maxillofacial surgeon. This is
fixable. I had the same thing only in the
back. im now touching all the way around.
keep your chin up--if you need help im
right here.

Thanks for the response, I've just been
seeing an orthodontist so far, I'm
wondering if you had surgery for your
problem or if the oral maxillofacial
surgeon does other things besides surgery.
I think I need a retainer to straighten my
bite out but I'm not sure what else I will
need, I'm hoping to get this taken care of
by the start of next school year.

yes I had surgery in april. My teeth now
touch. A oral maxillofacial surgeon should
be able to make a splint or anything that
you need. if you need help at all Ill be
right here to help you out. You might
need more than a retainer to straighten it
out but that really depends on your case
and what is going on up in the joint. keep
your chin up there is
hope.
