Allergy Shots And Mono. Relapse Posted: 06-09-07 21:31pm
After recovering from my first bout with
mono. (lasting about a month and a half),
I returned to work for about 6-8 weeks,
and then entered into a 'relapse'
(confirmed positive by an ebv antibody
blood test), and am now suffering once
again from the virus. Toward the beginning
of my 'healthy' period between the two
virus attacks, I began immunology
injections for severe allergies. I have
been receiving twice weekly injections for
my allergies, and now with the mono.
Relapse, my doctor has suggested we try
decreasing the dosage (rather than slowly
increasing as we had been), and giving
them to me 3 times a week instead. This
was in response to my inquiry and visit to
him, as I am worried that the shots are
confusing my immune system and slowing my
recovery time from the mono, again, the
second time around. He explained that
while they are both affecting my immune
system (the mono and the shots), one is a
virus and the other environmental. Prior
to receiving the allergy shots, I was in a
very foggy, drowsy state, and would have
excrutiating, itching attacks on my skin,
preventing me from being able to sleep. I
would wake up in the night, jumping into
the shower, covering myself in creams and
lotions, feeling like I wanted to
literally itch the flesh off my body. To
return to this state, in combination with
my fatigue from mono, is not appealing in
the least, but if my recovery is being
delayed with the mono, I am wondering
which is the lesser of the two evils. I am
looking for a second opinion... Is my
doctor on the right track with continuing
the allergy shots, or should we stop them?
And with it being june, how much longer am
I going to have to deal with the mono??!!!
Thank you!!!
