Birth Control Posted: 06-12-07 00:22am
I recently had a baby and afterward I went
on the Depo shot and after being on it for
nine monthes I decided to change to
another form of birth control. I saw my
doctor she gave me a prescription but told
me not to start until the sunday after my
next period. The problem is I have not had
a period since a month after starting the
shot. I know not having a period is part
of the side affects but I have not had a
dose of Depo since December 5. I have
taken a pregnancy test and it came back
negative, the doctor also gave me one with
the same result. I was suppose to get
another shot at the end of February, that
is when I decided to change birth control.
It has been six months since my last shot?
I still want to have more children, should
I be concerned? Will things go back to
normal? Is it common to continue not to
have a period after being on this drug?

I was on depo for about 6 years and NEVER
had a period. I was also concerned with
being able to have children as I moved
into my mid-twenties so I decided to
switch just so my cycle would come back -
it came back normally within 2 months. I
wouldn't be concerned.

I had a very similiar experience while
switching birth control. My last shot was
in November and I barely got a normal
period last week. Do not be worried your
cycles will even out. You body just has
to get back to normal again. But I bled
for 1 month straight in Janurary so be
aware that that is normal too, according
to my doctor.
I will never take the shot again though.
it messed my system up too much.
