"Should marijuana become a legal medical option?"

Do you think that patients should be allowed access to THC as a pain reliever? Many believe that marijuana can help ease the symptoms of painful and/or chronic conditions or treatment such as AIDS, Alzheimer's, Arthritis, Asthma / Breathing Disorders, Chemotherapy, Crohn's, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Epilepsy / Seizures, Glaucoma, Hepatitis C, Migraines, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscle Spasms, Pain, Analgesia, Psychological Conditions, and Tourette's Syndrome.

Others claim that marijuana is a gateway drug that will lead to abuse of narcotics and want to see the substance criminalized. The opponents of the medical use of marijuana state that the risks of medical marijuana include drug addiction, cancer, brain damage, decreased reproductive ability, and possible death.

i have always been one who is extremely against the smoking of marijuana for many reasons.
i have known many great people brought down by over using this drug.
people who only use it once everywhile seem to have no side effects, but those people are few and far between.
there are other pain killers out there, and marijuana is illegal for many reasons.
marijuana just like alcohol effects mobility and judgement. not including the physical risks which most people know, it changes your personality
you become much more zoned out and care far less about activities you use to. also while numbing pain your gaining weight which can increase your chances of heart disease and diabetes.
i think these are all good enough reasons to not allow the medical use of marijuana

I suffer from Fibromyalgia and IBS. I agree with legalizing marijuana for pain.

I have never used any illegal drugs in my life, but until you deal with a chronic illness you really never understand.

I agree with Lisa68 wholeheartedly. I too was against all forms of illegal drugs. That was until I was diagnosed with IBS, and all meds do not help much if at all. And changes in diet don't do a thing.
As Lisa68 said... until you have to deal with a chronic illness you will never understand.

Yes you are both right. without marijuana i'd be in constant pain from IBS and cronic arthritis. I hadn't smoked it since I was a teenager until i became so ill, the drugs the docs gave me were far worse. I even ended up in hospital due to side effects of anti-inflamertorys. It's criminal that the state makes people like us, that only want improve our quality of life, the criminals!

The Facts?
Posted: 05-14-08 06:38am

Marijuana is one of the oldest natural herbs known to human beings. It is also one of the safest, as it is impossible to consume enough to produce a toxic effect in the body. "Nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects. But marijuana is not such a substance. There is no record in the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented cannabis-induced fatality...Simply stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough marijuana to induce death...In practical terms, marijuana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity...In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume...Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man."

I do not like illegal drugs, however, if taken properly in small amouts will help, then it is fine with me.
I know I have chroinic illnesses and multiple one, between the stomach problems, suspected ibs, ulcer, fibromyalgia, bipolar disorder, headaches and my other health problems, I sure could use something to make me feel better, because I always feel like c**p and sometimes it is so bad I swear I have trains runni ng over me (Like I feel now). I f medical marijuana will make me feel better, i'd try it.
Hopefully it would help with stress related illnesses too.
