Shocked
lmao! I've never eaten turtle....I don't think I could, he's so cute! And yes I am silly. My cousin was at her friends house, and they have a pond behind their house, and they found it walking around in the grass and brought it to me. So I thanked them kindly...my plan was to let him go again, but my hubby doesn't seem to think he can survive out there.......but that's his natural habitat, so I think he'd do just fine.
Adriana likes to watch him. They had him in a little "bug house" w/o water, so he was kinda droopy. I made a makeshift home for him for now with some water and land and he's swimmin' like a mad turtle. He doesn't seem scared either, he doesn't go in his shell if you reach for him.

wow! I've never heard of any place like that. I don't think you can sell those types of things around here. Well, besides turtles once they reach a certain length. It may be illegal for me to have this lil guy Shocked

I've never heard of it to be illegal to own one, just to sell it. My sister got hers that little because one of her flute students dad was a park ranger and the mother had been ran over so he gave it to her. It's illegal to own certain snakes though. I do know that!

.i am a reptile nut. .me and my boyfriend own so many it isn't funny.

.what you have is a baby red-eared slider. .it is illegal to sell them that small because they are so young. .it will grow to about 9 inches (shell length) and the best way to tell if it is a boy or girl is the nails. .oddly enough boys have longer ones for mating purposes. .i would just let it go. .they live fine in their natural habitat and keeping them tends to get stinky because filters can not keep up with their 'waste production'

.sarah, eating turtle sounds icky. Confused .are they any good?

bwahahahahaha .jess!!!!!!!! It's not roadkill *yet*!! lol! We eat it before it gets squished and decomposed! blah!!

Opal, yes, it's verrrrrry good!! I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it!!

I would probably find it odd if I wasn't raised eating it. But .oni's had turtle. And she lerved it! They serve it at every single restaurant around here.

Alligator, if cooked right, is yummmmm-oooo! (gotta love rachael ray!)

.i would try anything once. .escargo is very good when cooked correctly :yummy:.

.i think the weirdest thing .i have heard of people eating is .bat .head .soup. .my boyfriend and his family were invited to a dinner get together at the parents of his mother's student. .they are .asian .i believe but .i am not sure which nationality they are. .he said it was nasty and their was actually a bat head floating in the middle :gag:

Well that's a bit of a relief! I knew it was illegal to sell them this little, so I thought it was illegal to own them this small too.
Sarah, it's not illegal to have turtles here.....but it is illegal to sell them before they reach a certain length.

Opal....I thought this little one was a painted turtle. I know red ear sliders and painted look a lot alike.

*edited to add, I never thought to look closely at the lil guy and just assumed it was a painted turtle, since it's the most common turtle around here.....so I went and looked him over good and something got the end of his tail, because it's missing Sad
And I think it is a painter, since he doesn't have the red markings on his face (behind his eyes I think is where the red ear sliders have the red)

.now that .i look closer you are right. .it does not have the red markings on the head but it does have red on the shell which is not characteristic of a regular red-ear.

that turtle is soooo cute, we had a pet that looked exactly like that one its a yellow bellied pond slider, my sister got it from a girl at school she traded her chips for it lmao. but we brought it up, we got a giant tub with some water and fish rocks and part where he could swim and then part where he could like sunbathe, they have turtle logs u can feed them, my turtle liked honey baked ham though so we would always get him lunch meat to eat cuz he loved it , we had it for like 6-7 yrs and he got about as big as a cd, then we had to give him away when we moved. it was prob my most favorite pet, but u gotta clean out its tank like any other animal too, wich can get smelly if not kept up with .
