In 2002 my doc, thru a routine exam, felt
nodules on my thyroid. Went to
endocrinologist and they did fine needle
aspiration on it and ultrasound, all was
fine, just a very nodular thyroid. Also,
my levels have all been normal. So, fast
forward to 2007. Doc felt nodules, I
brought in all the old data from my
previous tests, he did a FNA again and
blood work, everything was normal. He
wants to put me on .1mg of Synthyroid to
shrink the nodules. As far as I know, they
have not grown since 2002. So, should I
really be going on meds if my levels are
normal and the nodules are not harmful and
have not grown? I have no trouble with
them, no swallowing issues etc.
Thanks, Megan

Hi! Definitely get a second and maybe
third opinion. If I remember right back to
my in-the-thick-of-thyca days, sometimes
they want to shrink nodules as a
precautionary measure against possible
problems in the future, since thyroid
nodules can possibly become the seat of
trouble. It doesn't mean that they will,
but better safe than sorry. Keep us
posted.
