Burger's disease, also called
"thromboangiitis obliterans", is
characterized by acute inflammation and
thrombosis of the arteries and veins of
the hands and feet. The symptoms of this
disease include enlarged ,red, tender-cord
like veins, numbness and tingling of the
limbs, pain or tenderness, skin ulcers or
gangrene of the digits (toes, fingers),
discoloration, pulse may be decreased or
absent in the affected extremity. The pain
worsens by walking and decreases with
rest. This disease is associated with
tobacco use and it's thought to be a
reaction of the body to its own tissue
triggered by tobacco. Since there's no
cure for this disease, the only treatment
is control of the symptoms and immediate
cession of the use of tobacco.
