Are Any of the Symptoms Permanent Posted: 06-13-07 09:49am
I just had a question as to whether it is
possible for any of the symptoms of TMJ to
become permanent if not properly treated
in time. In particular, problems with
blurry vision caused by TMJ, even if it's
reached the point where it's essentially
at least a little messed up 24 hours a
day, is there any chance that won't go
away when the TMJ finally gets better?

I noticed over the last 27 years, that
symptoms come and go. When my TMJ is calm
and pain-free, problems with my ears,
eyes, nose, throat, neck and shoulders
also tend not to be so bothersome. So,
even tho there really is no way to answer
your question, I would say the possibility
definitely exists.
I answered that in a round-about way,
didn't I? Just to encourage you, since my
TMJ has become "manageable" over the last
17 months, my head has been the clearest I
can ever remember. And I can't believe
that my left shoulder doesn't hurt all the
time. It did for years. Thank God for
what He has done.
Hang in there. Don't give up looking for
the "right" help for you. Research. But
no stress.

I personally dont think that it would
become permanent unless the jaw damaged
the nerve that goes to the eye. early
treatment is essential in all tmd cases.
If i had even known what it was when the
symptoms came on(Ive had it all my life
and didnt know what was going on till i
was 12) I highly doubt that i would have
ended up where I am today. hang in there
