insomnia & heartburn
Posted: 06-14-07 02:48am

....insomnia, heartburn and those middle of the night charlie horses when I finally get to sleep. My heartburn medication no longer works and neither does laying up in bed. I am sleeping when I get a charlie horse and am too tired to try the banana for potassium as once mentioned on these forums. My insomnia seems like it is now turning into a manic form of nesting that I can't do anything about until I move into our new house next weekend (9 days from now!).

This heartburn is so bad that my throat hurts!!! I don't know what else to do. The doctor told me I am doing everything I need to do and there isn't much more I can do.

Sorry, it is 2:00 am and I just needed to vent about something. My heartburn is currently killing me and my foot and calf are still sore from last nights charlie horse!!

My baby is still doing well (need to add something positive here!!). For that I am thankful.

sorry you're having troubles. that's kinda funny, i was up until 2 am or so last night too, i was dead tired but just couldn't get to sleep. And i had killer heartburn too. i don't know what to tell you about the heartburn meds not working. that sucks. i just take tums when i get it, which is, thankfully, not that often. i even had hot pickles the other night and my boyfriend kept telling me i was going to pay for it later, but nothing happened. wish i could help you somehow, i know how much it hurts. Sad hang in there, not much longer now!

Aww that stinks. I don't get heartburn often, but when I have it's a horrible thing to deal with. So you are moving into a new house? That would be keeping me up too because all I would be thinking about was getting it ready for the baby. I hope you sleep better tonight. Good luck I hope you feel better.

with the charlie horse thing it could also be calcium and magnesium, but dehydration also plays a part. just so you know. if you're sick of bananas you could try some milk or yogurt or something. hope you feel better soon.

Hey I think the banana thing, You dont need to eat it right when you have a charlie horse, it will take hours for the potassium in the banana to get to your blood stream and then to your muscles. So it wont do anything.
Eat the banana before you go to bed...or have one or 2 throughout the day. The only way extra potassium could work that fast is if u had it drippin in an IV.
Hopefully that helps, have you tried drinking warm milk before bed...that works for me!

I started taking one Calcium with magnesium tablet right before bed and that fixed me all up! Now I never get them. Also, when you get them (and you prolly already know this) point your toes up not down. Down makes it worse.

Hope it gets better for you!

Wow.. I don't feel alone now. The heartburn is killer! I get it all day now. It doesnt matter what I eat either. Its so brutal. As for sleep, I either get lots of it, or not enough. ugh... 29 days!!!!!!! If my blood pressure stays up, it could be sooner than that. Which I think at this point since baby is fully grown and developed and everything is working on its own, I would not mind at all!!!!!!

Good luck with the heartburn girls and the sleeping. I feel for you!

Mary

karin,

is baby still head up? if so, maybe that's why you're having the heartburn so bad. hope that baby flips soon or has flipped already!

YES!! The babies head seems even farther up - right next to my ribs. Perhaps that is the reason why my heartburn is so bad. I never really thought about that before. I go in to the doctors next wed and I am now considering the external turning (whatever it's called). I was so against it before but these are high risk pregnancy specialists so they have probably done it many times. It's just so strange that he seems to be in the same position, just a little higher, as he has been for the past 8 weeks or so. Perhaps he does flip around and I just don't notice it???
