is this a sign of pregnancy or infection of some sort? This has never happened to me and is completely abnormal.

"Current medical status: i am having bleeding between periods...its been 2 weeks since my last period and i'm bleeding(spotting) again. at first it began with a brownish discharge, then a blood and mucus mixture. this morning it looks like another period. there was a bit of itching at first of the vaginal area but not anymore and also a bit of abdominal discomfort. no sore breasts or anything else that normally comes with my period."

Bleeding between periods (spotting) is called metrorrhagia. Metrorrhagia is not a sign of pregnancy. Irregular bleeding such as metrorrhagia is a sign of a complication if a pregnancy already exists. It doesn’t seem that you are pregnant but you can easily check your status with a home pregnancy test. Spotting could be a sign of a genital infection but other organic disorders like tumors, endometriosis etc. can also cause spotting. Spotting can also be due to hormonal imbalance which manifests as functional bleeding. You should contact your gynecologist as soon as possible.
