Stillborn Question
Posted: 06-14-07 10:48am

Me and my wife just lost our baby boy last thursday. My wifes due date was June 5th. On the 7th while getting ready I asked if the baby was kicking and she said not that much. She called the nurse and went in to check and they didn't find a heart beat. My wife had a doc appointment Monday June 4th and everything was fine. She had to deliver the baby. He was 7lbs and 21 inches. He was so cute. It wasn't a cord accident and she received the preliminary autopsy report today and they didn't find anything wrong with them. He didn't choke on his poop or have any heart issues. We think that the doctors screwed up on her due date. Her original due date was May 21 and they bumped it back till June 5th. Would that much time cause the baby to not get enough oxygen? My wife is very small framed lady. We just want an answer to what happened. We were so close to his birth. My wife asked her doctor to induce on monday when she was there and the doctor said no. Has anyone had a still born this late in a pregnancy?

IHeartMyBostonTerrier thank you.

We are still in shock because it was so out of the blue. Everyone I called to give the news too thought I was calling to tell them she had the baby. Then I have to tell them that the baby died. We want answers to be honest I don't think we will ever get them. My brother is a nurologist and his really close friend is an OBGYN and she told us that the chance of knowing what happend are 50/50. Her and my brother advised us to hire a lawyer to get the records and have his own doctors look over them. That way we have an outside source look and see if there was any mistakes made. If they say there wasn't then we will at least know it wasn't the doctors fault but just life.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, I lost my daughter who also went just over full term 7lbs 11oz, nobody was ever able to say, which is hard because you've nothing to focus your anger at, nothing to hang it on. I have learnt to accept by telling myself there was a reason some days that reason is apparent but equally there are many days where it seems so wrong. All i can say is that the reason why the gift of life is so joyous is because it's nothing short of a miracle. Time is a great healer it's been eight years so it's easier for me to say, but my 16year old son and I talk about our little girl often. Warmest thoughts. Philippa

Thank You to everyone who has left a post. I really really appreciate your help during these hard times. The hard thing now is waiting for all of my wife's medical records so we can give them to our lawyer. Once his experts go though them and let us know if there was a mistake made we will start to have closure. If they say there was no mistake by the doctors then we will believe it was just his time to go and that he is an angel in heaven with Jesus and God.

How long before it really sets in? I still feel like it's a dream and that my wife was never pregnant.

Has anyone who had this happen to them this late in their pregnancy ever had the doctors give them a specific reason? Has anyone ever sued?

Me and my wife are both professionals who make good money so if we sue it's not about the money but more for the fact that we want them to pay for their mistake. If they did make a mistake I wish I could make them pay in different ways but I don't want to get in trouble. LOL
