What Meds Can Cause Cirrohsis ? Posted: 06-14-07 21:25pm
My father has just been found to have
cirrhosis of the liver. At this point they
do not know what caused it. He never
drinks, and does not have Hepatitis. He
just came out of the hospital after having
a transfusion due to a very low hemoglobin
and that's when they found the liver
problems.
His doctor has now left for vacation until
July and i'm left wondering if some of his
medications may be causing his problems.
Is there anyplace that i can get a
specific list of meds that could cause
Cirrhosis? any other causes besides
alcohol abuse, hepatitis or certain
medications? Or are they the only causes
possible?
He also has all the symptoms of hepatic
encephalopathy. i'd like to know also if
there are certain tests they can preform
to find out if he indeed does have this
problem.
Any help Appreciated.

I had been mis-diagnosed with severe
depression and was put on many types of
meds. Blood tests showed that liver enzyme
levels were high an mri revealed cirossis
and they concluded it was one of the meds
I took (lamictal or lamotrogine)-if its
permitted to indicate medications on this
site. I had a reaction from it and almost
ended up in the hospital. It turned out
out all I had was hemachromatosis (high
iron levels)-go figure!
