I went from my doctor suggesting I check my bp over a few months and get back to him because it was slightly high 140/83 - to within a week having it jumped to 226/110 - a tia and carotid artery surgery. Now three weeks later, I am trying meds. I can find answers to most questions except the simple ones. My bp is still all over the place with a high of 173/100 to 149/82. I am wondering when is the best time to take meds (i have side effects so took it at night but have switched back to mornings to get more benefit) and am I expecting too much when I think the meds should lower the bp in a few days or week. Does it take some time? Am I in much danger of stroke with those readings? Is it usual for bp to rise so quickly with no history? I am pretty new to this as I have always been an ignorer of health. Didn't even no I had a carotid artery.  i also don't have a lot of risk factors that I know of. My weight it good, quit smoking 3 months ago (was a moderate smoker) am 58, my cholesteral is good - tri's a big high - and exercise every day. So, it doesn't leave me to much room to improve other than less salt and sugar. Any info would be great. M

Sounds like you had a rough time. It does take time for your blood pressure to regulate-especially after surgery and everything you went through. It shouldn't matter what time of day you take your meds as long as you are consistent. I hope everything is okay with you.
