Thinkin About Getting a Dog!! Posted: 06-17-07 05:31am
I really want one and jason does to so
weve been lookin in the papers, but it
seems everyone in the paper has already
gotten rid of there dogs
i dont know it theres like an animal haven
in germany or something so kinda sucks,
jason is lookin for specifics like he
doesnt want a really old dog like 2 yrs
old or younger. but we got time before he
leaves. he gets 2 weeks leave in july then
the end he leaves. so hopefully we find
one before he leaves if not ill have to
look for people that live in this area.
But im excited if we get one

You are coming back to the states soon
right? Why not wait until you get back
and settled in? Can you even bring a dog
from another country here?
im not going back to the states anymore, i
was but now its 100% for sure im not.
thats why we are lookin now, because i had
wanted one before but we never looked cuz
originally i was going back to the states.
but i will be here till we move in 2009.
and we should be able to take teh dog back
with us, they just need a special passport
and it costs like 100 bucks more.

Dogs are great and annoying at the same
time. If you get a dog, I would personally
get a smaller dog. Smaller dog = smaller
poop! I have two medium size dogs and my
life seems like it revolves around poop.
we had a dog for years in 1996 we got him
part german shepard part golden retreiver.
we had him until 2004 then i moved away
and a friedn took him , hes prob dead now,
but that was the best dog ever. I want
either or, small is better but big is alsp
fun.

I have to say some of the really big dogs
seem to be the most low key around kids.
The St. Benard (sp?) seems to be a really
good breed around kids. I still don't like
the poop aspect but such is life.

my cousin has a st. bernard and it was a
really cute dog when it was small but now
it's huge and they don't take proper care
of it. the poor thing doesn't get brushed
or walked enough. it looks kinda scary
actually because it's eyes are all droopy
and red. my aunt and uncle had a bernese
mountain dog which is about the same size
and shape as a st. bernard and it was a
really nice dog. i think they are named
for the town of bern in germany. when i
was small we had two huskies named cheemo
and cheeko that used to pull us in a sled.
i think you really have to be committed
to caring for the dog if you get a bigger
one, they just have more fur, bigger poop,
need a lot of space and exercise and need
to be trained so they don't jump on or
bite people. at this point in my life i'm
a devoted cat person but someday i would
love to have a dog, big or small. i think
if they are well taken care of and
trained, no matter what size they are they
are nice to have around, especially when
you're a kid. i hope you find a nice one
over there.
ya, its hard to find one though, i kinda
want like a yorkshire terrier or something
jason likes the golden retriever or lab.
but hes gonna be gone hehe. i used to take
my old dog for walks all the time, he was
like a giant teddy bear. i cant stand cats
only cuz my moms cat was evil and sprayed
the furniture, we even got him neutered
and he still does it. but he got out and
someone stole him now so eh.

Maybe you can watch someones dog that is
going away with your husband. That way you
don't have to worry about paying the extra
money when you come back here, you'll have
a companion when your dh is away, and
you'll be doing someone a favor. Just a
thought.

We have a .Great .Pyrenees who turns two
on the 29th, and a St. Bernard who is 16
weeks old on Sunday. They're both such
incredible dogs and .I love them both so
much!
Pocono is the .G.P, and she is the
sweetest dog .I've ever met. She's
incredibly gentle and great with kids. The
only time she gets rough is when my 14yo
brother wrestles with her, or when the
puppy bites her tail. Our neighbors have a
2yo and she is just great with him. He
pulls on her fur and stuff all the time
and she couldn't care less.
Mongo is the .S.B. He is a massive guy.
He's 15wks old and already approx. 50lbs.
He's still a puppy, though, and so he
doesn't quite realize his own strength.
He's taken me down a few times, and I'm
almost 3x his weight. He's very good with
small children, too. He likes to lick, but
doesn't bite little hands.
The only downside to both breeds is that
they can be very drooly. It depends on the
dog, though. Both .Pocono and .Mongo come
from drymouth lines, so they are not very
drooly at all, but we've met other dogs
from both breeds who constantly have
saliva dripping out of their mouths.
.P.M me if anyone is interested in pics!

do you have to brush them constantly? i
hear that's the only way to keep them from
smelling when they have so much hair
because bathing them alone doesn't do it.
i feel so sorry for my cousin's st.b
because he would be a really nice dog if
they took care of him. i wouldn't go near
him though because he stinks so bad you
can't pet him and he gets all excited when
you come close because he isn't used to
being petted. it's really sad.

As long as you pet the dog, brushing is
not a huge issue. Petting removes hair,
too. We take our dogs to the groomer at
petsmart because it's difficult to bathe
them with the cold water from the hose and
they're too big for the bathtub.
That .St. B needs to be shaved. Poor
thing's fur is probably all matted and
stuff. Seriously, petsmart does a great
job and it's not too expensive. start
hinting furiously!

i've come right out and said that she
needs to take better care of the dog. she
lives way up north far from the city
though and they have some different ideas
up there about how to take care of pets.
i just don't think they care that much
because it's an animal. it's pretty
backwards but it's a small remote
community so ...maybe i'll go up there one
of these days and shave that dog myself.
i could never have a long haired dog, like
that . i prefer short haired dogs.
i hate people that cant take care of there
pets, my sister has had so many dogs then
she ends up getting rid of them. they
stayed outside most of the time like 90%,
my dog will be indoors, going out for walks
and going to the bathroom.
I would take on a friends dog but all my
husbands friends live in the baraks so
none have any pets.
