Chronic Athlete's Foot : possibly spread to the palm of the Posted: 06-17-07 07:45am
I recently got rid of athlete's foot and I
had no symptoms whatsoever for a few
months solid. However, my hands were
unusually dry. When my hands were wet
(like from a shower or washing my hands a
little bit longer than normal) I could see
almost all over my palms was white dead
skin that was peeling. When I scratched at
it, it came right off and was tender
underneath.
Without making the connection I must have
touched my feet, and now I HAVE ATHLETE'S
FOOT AGAIN! Is it possible that my hands
(my palms) have athlete's foot?! Please,
this is a HUGE inconvenience to me, and I
have no health insurance. What should I
do?

Athlete's foot (tinea pedis in latin) is a
fungal infection that affects the skin,
scalp, and nails.These infections are
caused by mold-like fungi called
dermatophytes. Athlete's foot mainly
affects the soles of the feet, the areas
between the toes, and may spread to the
toe-nails. Athlete's foot can also spread
to the palms of the hands if you touch
your feet or another area of your body.
The treatment of this infection includes
antifungal sprays and creams. Athlete's
foot often recurs (comes back). You may
consult a dermatologist for treatment
options and advice.
