I had reflux surgery 40 yrs ago at the age
of 5. For the past 10 yrs I have pain in
my right kidney. I have had IVP, nuc scan
with lasix,ct scan.
My blood and urine come back normal(except
when I have infection). When the pain is
bad I suffer frequency with small output,
sometimes burning and smelly urine, I then
take in a sample and it comes back okay.
My right kidney fnctions at 24% and is
small, my left normal but slightly large.
The pain is on the right and I experence
it every day at verying degrees. The
urlogist says he can remove the right but
does not really want to until it functions
below 15%. I am tired of having pain every
day. Does anyone know what this condition
is called or have any ideas on how to cope
with the pain?

sounds like we have close to the same
thing. Did they put any stents in your
kidney? My surgery was called a
pyleoplasty, and its in the left kidney.
I was going to a urologist. In my case,
they will not remove it even though there
is no function. I'm still looking for
answers though. Don't give up. Good
luck!!

I asked my Dr. to send me a report on my
condition. This is what his impression is
"Renal atrophy and underlying chronic
pyelonephritis in right kidney with 24%
funtion. If the pain can not be tolerated
he can proceed with nephrectomy. This can
be accomplished with hand-assisted
laparoscopic or possibly straight
laparoscopic approach."
Has anyone had this done, and what could I
expect?
