Ok so does anyone know how long a contraction lasts when you go into labour? I'm having what i think is a braxton hicks but it's lasting alot longer and is more uncomfortable then they usually are. i don't want to get my hopes up so i'm just going to sit it out on here until i know if anything is going on

this is the first one, it started at 20.33 and now it's 20.36 and it's satrtign to ease off. I'll just have to sit and wait. I really don't think it is labou though i'm not lucky enough to have a early baby lol

if it is painful then most likely a contraction, they usually last more then 45 seconds long. if they get to 5-7 min part and ur having them regularly id go to the ER or L and D i mean.

Just keep track of them.

True contractions(many times) start in the back, and radiate to your lower abdomen.

they also start a pattern. Every 10 mins. Every 12 mins. etc.

If they are just in your lower&front belly, then they're false contractiions. Especially if there is no pattern.

I waited until I couldn't speak through a contraction to leave for the hospital. I swore it was painful false contractions the whole time! lol!

if it's true labor, you'll be in the hospital for at least 2 days, so I'd say def hop in the shower and wash it! Wink

Even if you don't go into labor today, your head will be clean! lol... I was mine once a week and it was in dier need when I went into labor!

mines massively thick too, hence why I wash it once a week! lol! It's a pain in the bum!! I just washed it this mornin matter of fact! Mr. Green So I"m good for another 7 days!! woooot!!

hopefully what you're experiencing is true labor!! I miss childbirth so much. It was such an amazing experience.

The pain was intense to say the least, but i felt so empowered when she came out. I felt like, I could accomplish *anything* put in front of me.

Are you going to choose to have an epidural or are you going to attemp to go drug free?

I only wash mine once a week too Laughing although in these past couple of weeks it's got greasy after two days days Crying or Very sad
I'm going to do my best to go drug free and if i do have drugs i hope not to have more than gas and air. All i can do is try, at the end of the day it will be an amazing experience however she's born

exactly!!! That's an awesome outlook on it!!!!

I regret being so stubborn about going drug free sometimes. What if something had happened? and I needed an epidural?? I would have been
*so* hard on myself afterwards.

I'm just as stubborn about drugs with this one...only a little more open to mishaps during birth being inevitable.

I'm exactly the same as you don't worry! I am so stubborn about having drugs or being cut becaus ein my mind a woman's body was designed to give birth and if we couldn't give birth drug free then none of us would be here

I just realised that my last post could sound like i'm bashing people who have pain relief. I'm really really not saying that, i think every woman who gives birth is amazing no matter how they have their baby

right after I had .oni when I posted it sounded like I was bashing all that had pain meds. I was ignorant in the way I posted and should have considered other's feelings before saying such things.

And people swore that my labor wasn't as painful because I was able to go without meds. Or that their contractions were *much* worse than mine were. Rolling Eyes

labor is labor. contractions aren't easier for anybody. I promise they don't have favorites! lol!

It's all in the person's pain tolerance! How well she can manage pain. I was taught and tested on how to correctly perform cleansing breaths and keep focus without panicing.

I remember the nurse asking me what my pain level was. And I said "that depends on how dialated I am. If I'm only 2cm, then I'm at an 8. If I'm 5cm then I'm at a 4/5."
SHe checked me and said "well you're at 5cm...you're halfway there!"

That's when my body took over and went into birthing mode. I didn't speak, I didn't cry. I just took deep breaths. I began to moan at 10cm and my body literally told me when it was time to push.
