aortic dissection , open heart surgery Posted: 06-19-07 21:48pm
My sister had an aortic dissection 12 yrs
ago and had open heart surgery to repair
it. Somehow, she survived. Has done well
until February this year when she had a
massive heart attack and survived again!
They had to bring her back twice. She did
pretty well for about 2 months, then she
started having shortness of breath and
ofcourse no energy. She has been
diagnosed with 2 leaky valves and her old
discection is needing to be repaired. She
has seen a specialist which want to
replace one valve and repair the other and
the old disection. I am so afraid that
she may not survive the surgery. Can
anyone tell me what is going to happen?
I'm so afraid and she is too.

Wow, sweety. I can't say i know what your
going through but i have had open heart
surgery. I had a valve repaired when i was
only eleven months old and i survived.
Here i am 16 years later and living a
normal everyday life. My grandmother had
open heart surgery about a month ago. It
was a slow recovery and she is still in
the hospital. It might take a while for
your sister to recover and with every
operation there is a risk. You just have
to have faith that everything will work
out for the better!
I hope your sister will be ok!

whosoever you are and wherever you may be
I fully emphatize with you. My prayers are
with you; I suffered an aortic dissection
undiagonsed for six weeks two years ago.
Somehow I survived after a valve sparing
procedure.
Your sis has more issues no doubt but she
is much younger to I and presumably access
to the best possible medical care. ADs
usuallyneed surgical intervention if in
the ascending or ar.ch of the aorta.Wonder
why the old dissection needs attention as
the procedure lasts.Having said that what
has happened has happened. I am no messiah
but it would be best to take the opinions
of those close and the medical team that
you trust.
My best to you and sis. Please give her
strength as she needs that to take on this
challenge.
