so i went for my 35.5 week appointment
today and had the gbs swab. i asked the
doctor before she could run out of the
room when would be a good time to talk
about the delivery and all that. she sat
down and said ok lets talk. so i said i
was wondering about when we could talk
about my birth plan and she just made this
face and said ".d.o .n.o.t write a birth
plan!!!". she told me that most of her
patients that write birth plans end up
having c - sections and that it's a big
mistake to go into it with expectations.
i said i didn't have expectations, i just
wanted to try for as natural as possible
but that i know anything could happen.
she said that while the epidural rate is
high at the hospital i'm delivering at,
they really actually prefer to have births
as natural as possible. she said she only
recommends an epi if someone is in extreme
pain or needs to get rest so they can push
later. so anyway, she reeeallly doesn't
want me to have a birth plan. she said to
just let the nursing staff know that i'm
trying my best to go natural and then to
just go with the flow. so much for my
prenatal instructor's advice.

yeah. it's hard to argue with someone
when you have no pants on lol. especially
when they just stuck a cotton swab in your
hoohoo. if
i do write a birth plan it'll be very
simple and to the point. and i'll write
in big bold letters .b.u.t .i .a.m
.f.l.e.x.i.b.l.e
i'm more worried about ticking off the
nurses than anything, some of them can be
some mean old biotches if you rub them the
wrong way!

I agree with .Beck. Write one and hand it
to the nurses. They are the ones who do
most of the work anyway. Let them know
you want to go as natural as possible.
They will respect your wishes and then if
you decide to get something to take the
edge off, make sure it's written. Some
women say they want to have no meds, then
they decide they do and nurses respect
their original wishes, because the
intensity of labor makes you say and do
some crazy stuff.

personally i say write one and take it but
dont give it to the nurses
put it on a table or something in plane
site so your support (boyfriend fianee
parents who ever is there with you) will
know what you want incase things get
intense, and that way the nurses can see
it and if they get upset you can say its
so your support person knows what to do
incase something happens
i also recommend if they try to give you
something to rest try sleeping medicine
first (thats the only thing i had during
my delivery because i was falling asleep
standing up) it can do wonders, if it
doesnt help see if there is anything else
to try before an epidural (if you dont
want one they can not force you no matter
what)
