Ive been watching a baby story and other shows, I notice they take a bag with them when they go to the hospital. Why? I mean is it expected and if so is there a list somewhere of recomended stuff to take?

um... clothes, toiletries, baby's clothes? trust me, you'll want a shower and those hospital gowns are not comfortable!

i'm sure there's a list somewhere but this is what i brought-

pajamas
fluffy socks x2
going home outfit (something big and comfy, you will not fit in your pre-preg clothes yet)
hairbrush
deodorant!
shampoo, conditioner, body wash (some hospitals provide this stuff)
makeup (it felt good to pretty myself up on the last day)
chapstick
my pillow

for baby i packed-

2 onesies
2 outfits for going home (in case he soiled one)
diapers (the hospital provided them, i brought a couple just in case)
pacifier
hat
blanket

basically pack for yourself like you would for a weekend away. if you plan on breastfeeding pack nursing bras and easy access pajamas.

lol, why wouldn't you pack a bag? you'll be there a few days. you'll need things from home.

i sort of overpacked.

here's what i took & actually used:

- my laptop (haha)
- a soft, comfy robe
- travel size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, toothpaste, & my toothbrush
- socks
- comfy tshirts (i just bought some plain tshirt from walmart)
- sweat pants that i didn't mind ruining (you may be a bloody mess)
- my own pillow & blanket
- cellphone charger & cellphone

& .for .gabe i packed:

- a few outfits
- a few diapers (just in case)
- onesies
- socks (depending on the weather)

when i was in the hospital i didn't take my own pyjamas 'cause here they make you wear a hopital robe (easier access i guess). but i did bring a long housecoat so i wouldn't be hanging out everywhere when i went walking in the halls. i also had nice soft slippers that i could get on and off easily. hair ties if you have longer hair and stuff to wash up with so you can feel clean and fresh.

usually after having a baby vaginally u stay 48 hrs or 2 days, c-section i think may be 5 days, it gets pretty boring in the hospital so bring plenty to do. its rare that they will let u stay only one day they have certain tests they have to run on the baby before they get discharged.

i've heard for a vaginal birth it's a 24 hour stay from when the baby is born, but all hospitals are different. though that seemed to be the norm on another forum i frequent.

for a c-section it could be 2-4 days, i think.

i had an emergency c-section, i was there from friday morning (finn was born friday night, 14 hours later) to monday. they said i could leave any time i wanted on monday, i wanted to go home so bad but i didn't want to rush so we left around noon.

for the people who brought stuff to do during labor, did you use it? when i first got there i was too excited to do anything, then after only like 2 hours i was in so much pain i couldn't imagine sitting there doing crosswords. i just tried to watch tv.

Here where I live I think if all goes well, and baby and mother are ok then you can be discharged 6 hours after delivery.

In my bag for baby I'm just packing

2 Bodysuits
2 Sleepsuits
2 Pairs Of Mittons
2 Hats
Coming home outfit eg' Sleepsuit, vest, bib, mittons and hat.
Coat
Blanket
Nappies (Here you are advised to just take a pack)
Wipes
Cotton Wool Balls

Oh and also most hospitals won't let you go home without a carseat so I'll get my parents' to bring that in for me the day I'm due to go home.
