Sleep Paralysis Combined With Serious Nightmares Posted: 06-20-07 19:45pm
I've been forced to reach out for help,my
boyfriend Chris has been experiencing what
we thought were night terrors but after
research I discovered its much more likely
to be Sleep Paralysis.
The problem is I cannot seem to find
anything where nightmares are involved,my
question would be is he really having
Sleep Paralysis or is it something else??
His symptoms are as follows:
-Feeling awake but being ''caught'' in a
nightmare.
-Feeling very very scared.
-Cannot move.
-Thinks he's yelling out but isnt making a
sound.
-Feels as if the people in this nightmare
is going to really kill him.
-CAN remember the event afterwards.
-Aware of whats going on and can clearly
see things around him/people.
-Feels held down.
Please if anyone could help it'd be a
blessing, hes become so scared to sleep
that he wants to do anything to stay
awake.
He's fit and in great health, also he is
over stressed if that helps any.

I know how he feels.. I haven't been able
to sleep for the last 2-3 days.. this is
my 2nd time experiencing this.. and I'm
scared to death. I hope someone can help
him..
I've experienced something very similar to
your boyfriend, and my doctor told me that
it is sleep paralysis. I've had
"episodes" (for lack of a better word)
where I can't feel or move any part of my
body, try to yell but nothing but a slight
whisper comes out (according to my
boyfriend), and become completely
terrified. I've had times where I feel
like I'm having a stroke and am going to
die and can't do anything, and other times
where I feel (probably in a nightmare)
that there is someone coming toward me (in
my bedroom) to harm me. If that makes any
sense. The first couple times I could not
sleep the rest of the night, afraid that
if I fell asleep it would happen again.
The first time I woke my boyfriend because
I was sure I had to go to the hospital
because something was seriously wrong...
we never did go. But my doctor has
assured me that this, no matter how scary,
is not uncommon. It is actually part of
the "falling asleep" process. And in our
minds, it is lasting a long time, but in
reality is over quite quickly. In regard
to actual nightmares... if he is on any
meds, check with his doctor about side
effects. I was on one medication
(ironically to help me sleep) that caused
bizzare dreams and nightmares that would
last all night long and I would remember
perfectly. And after waking up I was
still exhausted from the constant dreams.
Hope my long babbling helps!
