I say that if you are dying to have this
baby you should prolly accept the sweep.
Remember though, it doesn't mean for sure
that you are going into labor. It will
only put you into labor if your body is
ready. My sister had her membranes swept
at 2 pm and then delivered and 11pm. So it
does work for some people.

I'm going to agree with the 26th. I have a
doctors appt and will be away for most of
the day. therefore, I predict you will go
into labor when I can't be here to wish
you luck and check on your progress...

I think i'm gunna get the sweep done, at
the end of the day like you guys said it
will only work if things are already
moving in the right direction anyway so
it's worth a try. i don't mind waiting if
it doesn't work but it would be nice to
meet her now

ok well since you think your gonna take it
ill tell you what they do (please dont let
this scare you, it does hurt but its not
for long and itll help) im only telling
you this because i wish someone told me
before i got it done
it starts off like anyother pelvic exam,
they put their fingers up there and feel
your cervix but then they do something
different, they spread their fingers apart
and twist, sometimes they have to twist
more then once and sometimes they have to
go higher up and twist again
good luck, hope it works

scraped it with her gloved finger.

i don't really get it. what exactly do
they scrape and where are the fingers
twisting? do they stick their fingers
into your cervix? or is this something
done on the outside. i guess it has to be
on the inside right? because they are
separating the membrane from the cervix?
i have baby books but they don't really go
into any detail on this, they just say
that it might hurt.

i found this (i'm such a googler). that
sounds really weird! i guess you have to
have lost your plug or be losing it when
they do this? so they have to get their
finger right up in there and swipe around
without breaking the bag? oh the
indignities of pregnancy!! lol
Membrane sweeping is done by your midwife
or doctor. While internally examining you,
he or she will simply "sweep" a finger
around the neck of your womb (cervix). The
aim is to separate the membranes around
your baby from your cervix. This releases
hormones called prostaglandins, which may
kick-start your labour.
A membrane sweep increases the likelihood
that labour will start within 48 hours. It
has a higher chance of working if the neck
of your womb is already softening and
preparing for labour. It does not increase
the risk of infection to either you or
your baby.
A membrane sweep can be uncomfortable as
the neck of the womb is often difficult to
reach before labour begins and there may
be some slight "spotting" of blood and
irregular contractions immediately
afterwards.

Sounds like fun
Right now i couldn't care less what they
did, i'm so uncomfortable and my back
hurts so bad that i'll try anything.
Thanks for preparing me though it's a lot
less daunting thinking about my
appointment now i know exactly what's
going on becaus ei only had a vague idea
before hand

I am going to guess for Mika to be born on
either the 29th of June or the 30th of
June, but i think more the 29th.
