Mumps in pregnancy : increased risk of miscarriage ? Posted: 06-26-07 06:04am
I am concerned that there is an increased
risk of miscarriage as a direct result of
mumps in pregnancy. My doctor is unsure of
what action to take and is researching and
will contact me later today. I wonder if
there are any steps I can take to protect
my baby.

Amumps infection during the first
trimester of pregnancy has been associated
with an increased rate of spontaneous
abortion. Since the mumps is a viral
infection there's no specific treatment
for it, except for treatment of the
symptoms (fever, myalgia, swollen salivary
glands). Further, mumps vaccine is
contraindicated in pregnancy. You can
consult your primary health care doctor
for further steps and advice on how to
treat the virus.
