Marfan Syndrome
Posted: 06-26-07 20:54pm

I was skeptical of marfan syndrome ever since i began reading up on the disorder. It seems that i have more than a few of the symptoms that coincide with the disorder, but i don't want to jump to any conclusions or anything.

I am over 6 foot and weight aprox 135 lbs.
My arm span exceeds my height by several inches.
My chest caves in a little bit on one side.
My lower half is significantly larger than my torso.
I have a very lanky body type with long fingers etc.
I am somewhat flexible and have a long face with crowded teeth as well.
I don't have the best posture either.

I am asking if I should seek an appointment with a doctor or not, because I am not too keen on the subject.

Marfan Syndrome has interested me for years.

I know that going to the doctor isn't much fun for most people, but is there another reason that you are not keen on going?

Many people have Marfan Syndrome-like characteristics without having enough to officially be labeled with Marfan Syndrome. However, I would say it's something worth looking into since people with Marfan Syndrome can have some serious issues such as heart conditions.

Here's a good site if you want to read more about it: http://www.marfan.org/nmf/in dex.jsp

well there doesnt seem to be any cure or treatments except regular check ups and monitoring of conditions. Ill prob ask my doctor next check up, and I smoke occasionally so that's probably something i need to stop. thanks

My Story
Posted: 11-23-07 21:07pm

I just found out that I have Marfan's syndrome.

I was adopted at age 9months, and the only medical family history we knew was that my birth mom was a nut and that she was tall and skinny

I've complained about pain since I first learned to talk- before that I would cry (haha sorry mom)

then... they tried telling me I was crazy

I quit playing basketball at 13 because of pain, not being able to breathe, dizzy/fainting. I was diagnosed as having anxiety and being depressed. I slept a lot.

after I graduated I complained again. told me it was anxiety, and I was then sent to about 5 shrinks- but none of them thought I was depressed or had *real* anxiety (I do have some though, which I now know is caused by my heart)

all the while spending thousands and thousands of dollars on medical bills

I'm 22/f, 5'8" 108lbs. ok, long fingers and toes. joints problems, pain, my left leg at the ankle is crooked, I'm "double jointed", have a flat face sort of, small lower jaw, heart problems, bad posture (crooked spine too, just never followed up by a doctor so I dont know the degree)

I've been screwed. they're lucky I'm not money hungry haha
