We just switched Brayden to formula and he
is *so* constipated. I have heard you can
give them Karo syrup in their bottle to
help. I was wonder how much you should
give them and if its light or dark syrup?

I've never heard of using anything like
that in formula, but could you try
switching to a different formula instead?
I wouldn't think karo syrup would be good
for a little guy? How old is he? Is he on
solids yet?

i've heard of it but i don't really know
what karo syrup is. i think it's the dark
you want, but i don't know how much.
finn's pediatrician always said to put 2oz
of prune juice in his formula. he was
never constipated so i never tried it but
i would've tried that before anything
else.

He is about 4 1/2 months. And we are
pretty much on our last resort for formula
because the others all make him spit up
like crazy!
I have heard about the juice thing too but
was always told absolutely no juice until
6 months so I was trying to steer clear of
that.
I know many people that have used Karo but
I never inquired about what type and how
much so i was just wondering if you guys
knew.

Yes, I agree with .bridget. I'd go with
prune juice before karo syrup....and just
a small amount of juice won't do any harm,
he's already 4 1/2 mos. Prunes did wonders
when my daughter started rice cereal....it
made her constipated so I put some prunes
in it about every other day.

two measuring teaspoons in every formula
bottle, regardless of size, and adjust the
dose up or down depending on how things
are going.

before using them

we used .karo with .oni. But make sure you
get the dark .karo syrup. Not the
light.
It's dark dark brown. ANd it specifically
says it's for making pecan pies.lol.
chase is right about the measurments. 2tea
spoons. but warm it up so it can melt. we
put it in water, not the forumla though. I
guess either is fine.
Don't do the laxatives. it's not natural
and will cause cramping.

are you doing solids yet? I give Ava
prunes for breakfast when she skips a day
and by dinner it all comes out.

gotta leeerve the prunes!!!
THey work *too* good!
I just give .oni oatmeal cereal if she
gets stopped up. I dump some in her cup
during the day.
Oh, and I give her about a handful of
salad(with a lil ranch dressin-she loves
it, and I hate it! lol!). THat helps tons
too!

No, we are not on solids yet. Heck we
wouldn't even be on formula yet if it
would have worked out.
And I talked to the dr. about the formula
and we switched him to Enfamil Prosobee
which has helped with him spitting up but
hasn't helped with the constipation. Poor
little guy turns bright red and crys when
he is trying to poo, its one of those real
painful crys that almost makes me want to
cry!
I haven't talked to the dr. about the
constipation part. When he was younger
they told meto use a supository once but i
figure that wouldn't help to much now. It
would make him poo, but it won't soften it
any..

That's what Ava's on and she usually goes
twice a day. Every once in a while she'll
skip a day. I'd try the prune juice. Go
as natural as possible.

I asked my ped what to do in case .Jaylon
got constipated. He said Karo 1-2 tsp in
every bottle until he poops. I'd start
with one and go up to two. It supposedely
works very well. I have been fortunate
that he poops just fine. Light or dark .I
don't think it matters

Oni's dr said "dark .karo *only*! You'll
be wasting your time with the light, all
it'll do is make her hyper, not poop."
