Last night I had possibly the worst carpal
tunnel pain I've ever had. Recently I've
had some bad episodes, but this one,
seemed to exceed even them.
Before this and the recent bad episodes, I
could alleviate my carpal tunnel with
magnetic arm and wrist braces, but last
night, these didn't seem to even faze it.
I took some vitamin C, two 3mg melatonins
last night before bed. Woke up with bad
CT pain in right arm & wrist. Put on
braces, to no effect. Went downstairs and
took 2 acetaminephin. This has usually
taken care of it in the past enough so
that I could sleep, but after 20 minutes
to a half-hour, this didn't seem to help
at all.
Pain generally went away or nearly did
while in a standing position with arm
hanging. It was worst while lying and
trying to sleep, but also bad when I sat
up for a while on the couch, sleep being
futile.
I thought of taking a vicodin, but was
worried about interaction with the
acetamenaphin and melatonin. I looked
this up on Google, but the info was too
complicated to make a decision. I decided
to avoid the vicodin, but at one point I
almost gave in.
After sitting up for a while, pain
subsided enough for me to make another
attempt at sleep. I decided I'd take a
melatonin and a Valerian cap to help me
get back to sleep. After lying down
again, pain started right back up. I
decided to put on a heavy-duty CT brace.
Barely helped at all, if any. At one
point, my forearm, thumb and wrist burned
and hurt so bad, I tore of the brace in
desperation, as it seemed almost to be
worsening the situation. STRANGELY,
within a minute or less after doing this,
the pain just TOTALLY faded away and I
almost immediately got to sleep again. I
woke up with some numbness/burning in my
LEFT arm a few hours later, but it was
minor and tolerable. Magnetic braces, as
usual, took care of this.
I'm self-employed in lawn & garden work,
and I was weed trimming and mowing a bit
more than usual that day, which had
triggered bad CT cases at night, but never
this bad.
I need to know what I can safely take to
get me through the night with these
episodes, and I can't waste time and money
on doctors. I've been that route too many
times before, with very little help.

Hi there,
I'm so sorry for your pain--my CTS was
killer, and I know the frustration.
NSAIDS only helped so far, and they're
pretty hard on the body. The thing that
helped me--it got rid of my CTS--was a
treatment called ASTYM. I know you don't
want to deal with doctors, but if you get
a prescription for ASTYM your insurance
does cover it.
I had a physical therapist recommend ASTYM
therapy. She did the treatment on me, it
took 12 treatments, I had to do a LOT of
stretching and strengthening exercises,
and it really did the trick. I'm a writer
and at the computer all day, so it was
pretty miraculous.
