Starting a New Pack a Week Late After Period.
Posted: 06-29-07 16:36pm

I started a pack of Ortho-low the SECOND sunday after I started my period. I got confused with the directions. Will I be protected in 7 days from when I started even though I started late.

I am expecting that my cycle will be different now. Some one told me that I will be protected in 7 days but I should expect some major breakthrough bleeding and maybe a late period.

is this true?

please help. thanks in advance.

There are two ways to start your pills for the first time.

The first way is to start on the very first day of your period, whether it's sunday or thursday etc. If you had done it that way, you would have been protected immediately.

However, there is another perfectly fine way to start, and it's actually what I did. You start on a sunday. Any sunday, doesn't matter when. It's what you did too. You will be protected in 7 days.

You may or may not experience break through bleeding, but if you do, it's not because you're a sunday-starter. I didn't have any breakthrough bleeding at all. I never have actually. Just because you started now doesn't mean you'll have breakthrough bleeding, and it certainly doesn't mean your period will be late. Those things can happen regardless of when you start.
