Kidney Faliure Vs Kidney Removal Or Transplant Posted: 06-30-07 05:18am
If one kidney's renal function is reduced
to serious levels is there a high chance
the kidney can be removed with out a need
for a transplant if you have one healthy
kidney?
At what renal function does the kidney
need to deteriorate to for a kidney
removal or transplant to occur?
At what point would dialysis be
introduced?

Hi Debbie-
I don't know what point drs. decide to
remove a kidney (grappling this myself)
unless you're in renal failure. I know
you may live a long, full and happy life
with one healthy kidney. I know dialysis
does not come into play unless you only
have total kidney function at very low
levels. A lot of other info should also
come into play such as creatine, Bun, GFR,
protein. Wish I could give you an accurate
answer here - but I hope this little bit
of info helps. Hope you're doing well.

Ya, I'm in the same boat. Have no
function in my left kidney but they won't
remove it. My other kidney is working so
they don 't worry about it. I
have a lot of pain and fatigue. As long
as the numbers are in range they won't do
anything.
