A friend of mine and I are having a debate about an issue and I figured this is the best place to post..

Can you still get an herpes if the person isn't having an outbreak ? what are the odds? just let me know

Yes, you certainly can get herpes from someone even if they don't currently have an outbreak.

"HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be found in and released from the sores that the viruses cause, but they also are released between outbreaks from skin that does not appear to be broken or to have a sore....Transmission can occur from an infected partner who does not have a visible sore and may not know that he or she is infected..."

It just depends. My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year and it took 14 months for him to get the virus. We have never used protection together, so I am not sure.

I just know that you can pass it on at any time, even when you dont have outbreaks and even with medication.

There is still that chance, you know....
