Bleeding (spotting) and prolonged menstruation (menorrhagia) Posted: 07-01-07 15:51pm
I have the mirana IUD and this is going on
six months but my period is still lasting
for 2 weeks! without birth control my
period is normal and usually lasts about 5
days. I asumed it would regulate itself
and go back to that but, has not. the
periods are rather light but why do they
last so long?

Intermenstrual bleeding (spotting) and
prolonged menstruation (menorrhagia) are
expected side effects of the IUD. An IUD
is an efficient enoughcontraceptive method
even when used alone, so I'm not sure why
you're using birth control pills. If the
bleeding becomes intolerable you should
visit your gynecologist and consider
removing the IUD.
