Frustrated: Could This Be Ms? Posted: 03-05-04 16:18pm
Last may, I started having occasional
dizzy spells while working in the garden.
In late may, I began having heart
palpatations. After working with my gp
and a cardiologist, we decided probable
causes were not enough sleep, and too much
caffiene (made sense), and over-training
(i run about 20-30 miles per week when I
feel good). I started getting better
after addressing those causes.
In late july, I came down with a really
good cold and possible sinus infection.
We had a pretty hard time getting rid of
it...Several rounds of antibiotics.
Symptoms during this time included ache in
the left temple and lightheadedness. We
attributed the lightheadedness to my
balance being screwed up. This
continued on and off until early
october.
In october, I started feeling whoozy
during the day, to the point where I had
to sit down. It seemed to get worse
with anerobic exertion, like carrying my
child around. Other times i'd feel weak,
have a slight sore throat, discomfort
around my left eye, discomfort in the area
connecting my legs and groin, and vision
in left eye was slightly out of focus once
in a while. Also, my hands and feet
feel slightly weak and tight.
Occasionally, my head would just be cloudy
and i'd have a really hard time
concentrating. We consulted a neurologist
and had cts of my entire upper body done.
We came up with nothing. The only
suggestion from my gp was stress. The
symptoms finally subsided in december.
I felt great from late december through
mid-february. The only weird thing is
that I started noticing more "floaters" in
my left eye. Other than that I felt
fabulous. In mid feb, I started coming
down with a cold. After about a week
with the cold, all my symptoms from
october slowly began to return. I've
seen my gp again and i'm on antibiotics
again. I sleep fine and feel great
lying in bed...But once I get up I get a
dull headache. The other weird thing is
that my pulse seems much more noticable
(like when I sit back with my arms up and
clasp my hands behind my head...I can feel
my pulse through my arms).
My gps initial concern in october was
possible ms, but the neurologist didn't
think so. I'm worried that both periods
of symptoms seemed to have followed a
viral infection. I also feel like a
constant complainer because my gp can't
find anything wrong with me...But I feel
like something is wrong.
Can anyone help?

It sounds to me like you're frustrated -
not knowing can definitely do that. The
only suggestion I would have is to ask the
neurologist to authorize a head mri.
Either you'll have evidence of ms or not.
For me, the mri was the only conclusive
thing! Good luck!

My story:
i also have been trying to find out what
is wrong with me. Btw, my name is
jennifer and i'm 21. At 15 I started
getting numb in my lip and it moved to my
arm (on my left side) so I went to the
hospital to see what was wrong (if it
could possibly be a stroke). Well when
all the tests were done they found
nothing, and the feeling had went away.
Well I got these symptoms on and off once
in a while, but I figured they would say
it was nothing so I did not pay attention
to them. Until may of last year, when I
felt like I was going to pass out. I went
to 1 hospital, they did a ct-scan checked
my vitals and said everything was fine.
The released me, even though I was still a
bit dizzy. The next day, things got
worse, so I went to another hospital.
When I got there they admitted me because
my white cells were high. I spent 6 days
there a bit numb and disoriented, with no
luck. I had 2 mris, 2 eeg's and a
ct-scan, nothing. I was released when I
refused to have them probe my shunt or do
a spinal tap (they had told me I may have
ms, and this was the only way for them to
find out). I get the numbness all the
time now, and it has actually been
happening for about a week now (same as
you~up in my left eye with some blurred
vision) but also down the left side of my
face. I hope maybe we can come to a
conclusion. I'm tired of living like
this! However, I do not experience pain.
The doc and my hubby think I am nuts
too!

Hi, I have some of the same symptonsb but
im only 19. Im scared and I dont know
what I should do this worries me. I have
noticed the same symptoms over the past
year. But recently I have been getting
dizzy for a min or 2 then it goes away, or
will see floaters....Here and there. The
other symtpoms I have is pain, I have pain
from my left shoulder all they way down to
my toes.....Sometimes it lasts all day
sometimes it doesent. But one thing about
my shoulder and hips mainly my left
shoulder it will pop in and out of place
and you can hear it loudly if I do, it
hurts when I do that, its like its out of
place or something I dont know but I
notice my hips do it a lil too....It not
normal I know that. And I have noticed
when I sit down my legs will get numb,
they will get cold a lot of times. I
think I have decreased sensivitity
everywhere..Not like it used to be. I
have a numb spot just below my left eye,
its a small spot it just numb and then
goes away...Not often. I have
headaches.....Also I notice
confusion....Every now and then......

Do you have a history of high blood
pressure? Also, did your gp order blood
work? Could be a metabolic inbalance?
Good luck
