This afternoon we are taking jay to the hospital to see the peadiatrician (spelt wrong nvm lol).
We found out when he was 8 months old via a blood test that hes allergic to cows milk and peanuts and not allergic to wheat, soya or eggs. It wasnt too bad then because I breastfed him for the first year anyway.

Then at 2yrs old I tried him with egg, thinking he would be fine because of the previous blood test, but he wasnt! He got a blotchy itchy rash on his face after 1 mouthfull, vomited it back up and kept coughing. We used piriton allergy syrup to stop the reaction. So I took it that he was allergic to eggs, and havent given him anything containing them since.

His allergy is severe, we have to carry injections of adrenaline/epinephrine (spelling?) incase he goes into anaphylactic shock where the throat closes stopping their breathing.

This afternoon we are seeing the same doctor at the hospital we saw 4 years ago to get him tested again. Im dreading it because he will have to get a blood test Sad
I've noticed hes ok with some items containing milk, so I want them to test him to see if its the sugar or the protein in milk that hes actually allergic to. I dont think its both. They can grow out of it by around 5yrs old, so fingers crossed he does. (Do you know how many things contain milk?!)
The egg thing I dont know but he will be tested for that again, and it should come up positive for an allergy unless hes grown out of that.
Peanut allergy is usually with you forever.
Hes likely to be allergic to bee stings too, but we wont know until hes stung.

Im not looking forward to it.

yikes. that's scary. i'm afraid of allergies in my child as well. i have an allergy to shellfish but that's generally easy to avoid thankfully. eggs and milk are in so many things. i hope you're able to figure it all out. i've had reactions where my throat closes up on me and i have to throw up and my lips get all swollen. not fun at all. poor baby. that's a lot of extra work for you trying to figure out a diet that's safe for your little one. good luck.

Thanks for your support. It went well, he was fine with the blood test Smile
Next month he has a skin prick allergy test and then we see the peadiatrician again in September.
If hes grown out of an allergy, they will let him eat some of that food in hospital, just incase he has a reaction. I dont think he has, but we'll see.

Glad it went ok. Allergies are a pain in the bum! I was put on dairy free and wheat free diets when I was a kid because I have eczema and the doctors thought it might be linked. It never really bothered me as a kid but I think if I was to still be having to eat like that as an adult I'd find it harder.

I have a severe allergy to certain nuts though and carry an epipen around with me in case I accidentally ingest some. Fun fun fun! Laughing

Thanks Mandi Smile

candita sky wow your boy is allergic to so many things Shocked must be difficult cooking his meals. Is he likely to grow out of any?
Ive been told the milk and eggs jay could grow out of - usually happens around age 5.

Yesterday at his pre school the woman who leads it said they had an incident. One of the girls had been given peanuts with her lunch at home and had put some in her dress pocket. She was eating them secretly during class when they all sit together on carpet for story time.
Luckily another teacher noticed and took her off to wash her hands and throw the rest out.
They spoke to her nan after speaking to me, so it shouldnt happen again. They have signs up everywhere saying no peanuts allowed in the school, but her nan might not have known she put some in her pocket.
That could have been bad.

Do they allow peanuts in the kindergarten? They say not to give nuts to children under 5 years old, so it would be good if all kindergartens/pre schools banned them.
Allergies are becoming more and more common in children.
I hope both our boys grow out of them really soon.

Shocked
Thats worrying. I hope you can do something about it for your son. If they have a child who's allergic to peanuts, there must be guidelines for what they are required to do or something.
