Q: Called Back For Level 2 U/S
asked by: KatieFlower on July 3rd, 2007

Usually it takes at least a month for the doctor's office to set me up with an appointment for an ultrasound. I just went for one at 31 weeks last wednesday. The doctor just called me today and said I need to go back on thursday, the day after tomorrow (asap)

does anyone know why the doctor might call for this and would you be worried? Thanks,

katie

has anyone else gone for a level 2 ultrasound?

sorry, i don't know anything about that. the only time i got sent back was when they found a cyst on my ovary. i hope everything is okay. was it a tech or a doctor doing the exam? sometimes a tech will miss something and the doctor will want to get a better picture of it. hopefully it's nothing. good luck!

This is some stuff i read about it:

All ultrasounds performed after 18 to 20 weeks should be level two ultrasounds. This means that gestational age and fetal growth measurements are noted, along with comments about the brain, heart, kidney and cord insertion, amniotic fluid volume, placental position and obvious maternal pelvic organ abnormalities. It generally takes more than an hour to complete.

Level I, which is a more basic exam, would include information about fetal number, fetal presentation, documentation of fetal life, placental location, assessment of amniotic fluid volume, assessment of gestational age, survey of fetal anatomy for gross malformations and an evaluation for maternal pelvic masses.

no I haven't had any blood work done lately. And it was a tech doing I hope thats why.

I am thinking that maybe I should call the doctor back...
If I call back will the nurse tell me why they are sending me back for a level 2? Because I am really nervous. will they tell me why? I wish I would have asked.

sometimes the moderators will change the subject of a post to make it more clear what it's about. i think they do that more on this particular forum than say, the community chat forum, because people come here looking for information on their pregnancies. maybe they just wanted to simplify or clarify the subject of the post for the benefit of someone doing a search of the forum. that would be my guess.

The nurse returned my call and she said his head and abdomen were measuring small. She told me not to worry because it might have just been the way the baby was laying and that a level 2 ultrasound will find out for sure because it is way more detailed and lasts like an hour.
thanks for your replies.

Hey yes! I went back and they had the ultrasound tech check me out, and then the doctor came in. The doctor walked in and said "so we couldn't see the baby's heartbeat" and I was like "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
and I swear to god she was just like "ooops sorry wrong patient"
and then I was still almost having a panic attack and she just told me that it was absolutely nothing at all and he is perfectly normal. thank you god
thanks for the support girls

I would've flipped out on her! I think that I honestly would've had a break down when she said "wrong patient".

Level2 Ultr Sound
I am so glad everything is ok. Sometimes it is very busy and they get mixed up happen to be except reverse. they told me everything was fine and I know how to read a ultrasound and i knew something was wrong. My baby had died the whole reason I went there was to find out just that. As 4 days before this ultra sound I as person was hit by a car and I flew over it and landed flat on my tummy. I was already 4 1/2 months along and then had to have a d anc (abortion) only put nicer because my baby was already dead. My body did not do it self so they did it and one day I might share that but not now still very painful for me. Best of luck with your baby boy.

Hey there! I noticed that you wote a reply about being pregnant and I wanted to see if pregnancy is what ended up bringing you on here too.. First CONGRATS on your pregnancy I know in 2006 you wanted a baby! So you must be so excited did you try for your baby or just continue with the pull out method. (sorry might be too persona and off topic for you) If so I am very sorry I am just curious. Anyway, I am glad that your boyfriend is happy with your new addition! I am sure he'll be adorable. You're getting close I bet your excited to meet him!
