Is removing the appendix routine when doing gallbladder removal? I was surprised to find out my doctor removed my appendix when he did my surgery.

Wow! No, that's not routine. He would have removed it if he noticed that it was inflamed or needed to come out, but that is definitely not a routine procedure unless your surgery was considered "exploratory". Was it done laproscopically? Refer to the consent form they made you sign at the hospital to see if it is covered under the description of what they planned to do during gallbladder removal. If it is not included, then what they did could be considered unethical. Did they tell you why they did this?
