Is it mandatory for you to take it?? It is an Anti-physichotic medication which is quiete strong.
The one way to look at it if you are worried about taking drugs...is that it is often worse for you to not take the medications. In the sense that the harm on your baby of the drugs themselves is not as severe as the harm to your baby if you leave your condition untreated.
If you are taking this drug I am assuming you are having some trouble with Depression or other mental illness, this will pre dispose you to Post partum depression which can be very very traumatic and worse then taking the medications throughout your pregnancy.
I hope that helped!

Along these lines...
After working in the hospital in the psych ward, I have to say that the doc's would weigh out the benefits and potential damage of the drugs. They would work under the assumption that a stable pregnant mom is better for the fetus than an unstable pregnant mom, and would work to acheive that.
Seroquel was the least potentially damaging drug to a fetus. Best of luck!

The possibility of harm to a developing baby has not been ruled out. You should take Seroquel during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh this potential risk. The government regulatory experts state that Seroquel should only be used during pregnancy or breast feeding if there are clear benefits to a patient’s Seroquel use.
obviously, your doctor, if he is informed of the fact that you are pregnant, believes that the benefits of taking your medication outweighs the risk. if you don't fully trust your doctor, get a second opinion. don't just stop taking the meds on your own because they were obviously prescribed to you for a good reason by your doctor. i think you should go to a medical professional to get advice about serious issues like this because there doesn't seem to be anyone on here that can give you straightforward answers about this medication. good luck.

hi reneblack...i am also on seroquel and went to see my psychiatrist today...i am about 6 weeks pregnant and she thinks i should remain on the medication while i'm pregnant....i have decreased the dosage quite a bit...but from what i've researched i feel like it's a good idea to stay on the medication...maybe just lower the dosage if your doc says that would be o..k.

Taking Seroquel While Pregnant
I take 100mg of seroquel. I was also worried about getting pregnant. I tried to research as much as I could about the subject, but there was not enough info. I asked my primary care doctor, my ob, and my son's pediatrition(I wasn't on seroquel when I was pregnant with him) and they all said it should be fine. I am now 5 weeks pregnant. It's nice to know someone else is out there with the same issues.

THank you
Reading this thread brought tears to my eyes. I am 11 weeks pregnant and on seroquel. I am bipolar and i am off it i don't sleep and can get manic. My doctor told me to stay on my meds that it would be worst if i get sick. I cut my dosage in half on my own my doctor dosent know, I feel that its best if I take only half of my dose. Reading this post I feel that my constant fear for the health of my baby is a little lighter. THANK YOU. Knowing that your baby is healthy means the world to me.
If there is anyone else that is pregnant on seroquel or has already had the baby I will be very happy to hear from you.

Candai, I think I just replied to you on yahoo questions...Can you tell i'm combing the internet for answers?? I also am very relieved to read that someone has actually been through this with the seroquel....As i wrote to you in the post on yahoo, i am thinking more and more to go with the low dose seroquel. Keep me posted on what you are going to do, if you'd like...i would like to keep in touch with someone who's going through the bipolar-pregnant thing!

Pregnant and on seroquel
Like Candai79 and Amy H. I am pregnant, about 7 weeks, and on 100 mg of seroquel, and I am combing the internet for any information. I am very nervous, but happy to see some of the posts here!! I am very nervous about the effect it may have on the baby, I would like to decrease the medication, but not sure if that would put the baby and I into withdrawals. I meet with my dr. in two days to discuss what we will do, but in the mean time, trying to calm my nerves, thank you to anyone that has been on seroquel and left posts. Candai79 and Amy H, email me anytime, I would love to know how your pregnancies are going!!

Also worried!
Hey, im currently taking 500mg of seroquel i recently tried cutting down and it didnt work out so well, i have resigned myself to the possibility of having to take it for the rest of my life, i have already been on it for about 5 or so years i am 24 now, which brought up the question of am i able to have children on such a high dosage, as my partner would probably like to start sooner rather that later..... i am very worried more about how high my dosage is, and that i dont know if i will be able to reduce it at all...... Ive read about some tests they did on i think it was rats that they concluded it may cause low birth weight right down to miscarragies, please if anyone knows someone or has themselves been on a dosage as high as this and has had a fully healthy baby. im dying to know...
Thank you.

Pregnant and on seroquel
So I am now 10 weeks 5 days and taking 75mgs seroquel. So far so good. Kittley, do you have to take such a high dose? That's a VERY high dose....esp for maintenance. I would try to bring it down 25mgs at a time, even just dropping 25 mg a day. The studies that were done showed that the higher the dose, the more the side effects (low birth weight, etc) showed up. This was of course in rat and dog studies. There is nothing about humans. You can contact me there with any other questions...I look forward to hearing from you!
