Yes, yes, I know, any bite beyond Masquito
people point to bed bugs or mites - but
I'm sure my problem is masquitos - because
it is fairly humid here, and even removing
standing water from my property won't do
me any good, nor do the screens because I
do NOT live alone, and other people insist
on having the back door open so that cats
can get in and out without annoying us.
The cats are on monthly treatment for
fleas - and mites have already been
removed.
However, all summer I've been getting a
moderate amount of itchy bites, but there
have been some different ones on my legs,
and only legs. My mother says it's
probably allergies to the masquitos, and I
know they can occur suddenly, but I have
some masquito bites that are 'normal' and
then some turning almost scarlet at the
same time - if it were allergies, would
they not all be worse than normal? Most of
my bites are red and raised, and slowly
fade into my skin colour. However, these
ones have a very sudden contrast between
skin and bit, and one of them is entirely
dark red, not raised, and painful as well
as itchy, while the other ones on my legs
are not as dark (but still fairly red)
with a yellow center (but not pus filled),
and ARE raised significantly more than the
rest of my 'normal' bites. The texture on
the raised ones are the same as the skin
around them, but it feels hard underneath
when I press it. The non raised one is
level with the rest of the skin around it,
but has an almost waxy feel to it.
Er to sum that up in point form, to make
it more comprehensible
Normal bites
-itchy
-slightly raised
-reddish pink, gradient to skin colour
-Normal skin texture
Bite #1
-itchy and stings
-not raised
-Dark dark red, doesn't fade to skin
colour
-Slightly waxy texture
Bite #2
-Itchy and stings
-Very raised, bump feels hard when
pressed
-Abrupt bright red with yellow (non pus)
center
-Normal skin texture
Could it just be the cusp of an allergy
forming? Or perhaps it isn't masquitos? My
brother has been making all sorts of
theories that are very unlikely, but
nonetheless scary. I normally wouldn't
bother anyone about it and just use my
head, but it's just because they are so
different from the usual bites I get this
time of year that it uneases me. I'd
rather sit here and type up a question now
than wait the two or three more weeks for
another appointment. Thank you for your
time and patience in reading this.
