My name is Bernadette Marie. In the past, I didnt really like my name too much so I had everyone call me Bernie instead. Now I've gotten over that...especially after many ppl have complimented on me saying that my name was pretty.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my b/f and i ere tryin to think of good names for her. I didnt want something that was very common in my area. But one day I was watching a movie and one of the characters' name was Madison. So I started looking up the name on babynames.com and notice that there was a different spelling of the name madison which Madisyn. I chose the spelling with the y b/c I thought it was creative. And it fit my daughter's name perfectly....Madisyn Regina. There are a few ppl with the name Madison but my daughter is the only one that is spelled with a y in place of the o.

Kaerbear, I think the name Danis is perfect..............original and just perfect.
Jeff Foxworthy......just in Atlanta......you might be a redneck:
if you go to family reunions to pick up women
or
take a cooler of beer to a funeral
I agree, there are rednecks everywhere............

Going back to the STD names, i had a friend that actually wanted to name her daughter clamydia bcuz it is "besutiful and classy" i think i died laughing on the phone. And this chick was 17yrs old at time of said comment...
Im naming my son Caiden [middle name, but its what we will primarily call him], i think it is beautiful, unique but not weird or ghetto, and even kinda classy Smile

But naming you kid Syphillis or Diarrhea (the hospital wouldnt let her...thankg God) or something like that should be illegal on the fact that its jus dumb...but "Courtnie" is adorable!

Please Kaerbear, learn all you can from your Mother or from anywhere you are able about your heritage. So many young people today don't give a rats ass and things become a legend of the past. I find it very honorable that you are willing to carry on tradition and I would teach everything I knew to the future Danis as well! God Bless you! Laughing

I just realized that, and I don't mean this in any way joking or sarcastic or anything, but if you wanted to give her a religious sort of leaning to her name you could nickname her .Plagal.

I think that would be cool, but that's just me.

LMAO! I don't think that she would be happy to be considered a mode.

That is also the pro-life alliance of gays and lesbians so I don't know how that would go over.

(But plagal is a cadence???)

Didn't know about the alliance acronym. Laughing

Oooh, this is cool, I think..."Cadenza". Kind of unique, kind of like something you 'might' have heard before... sort of a free spirit.

If you're a hippie, I suppose. Smile

Edit: I think I've found my (nonexistant) daughter's name: Violet Cadenza

i love violet. i love pretty flower names. i think names like iris and viola and lily are so cute. i would have chosen lily for a girl but i suggested it when my cousin had hers and she used it! it's probably going to become more common now anyway.

A plagal is a cadence sorta. Down to it's root form though it is actually a mode, such as a Plagal Ionian mode. I guess that you could say "I am playing a plagal Locrian mode cadence". Then it would be a cadence.

Sorry for the musicology lesson. I am a music teacher and I have a hard time not teaching Embarassed

I really like Violet Cadenza though. It's tight!

You've just listed my favorite girl names right there!!! My bf's mother's name was Violet so that seems particularily apropo.

Ah, now, but a IV-I cadence is a Plagal cadence. Although there are four types of Plagal modes, the IV-I is a Plagal cadence. Y'know, the "Amen" cadence heard in some chorales?

Good lord I hated music theory why am I thinking this hard about it!!! Laughing

Lol, you are right but rarely do you hear people call the IV-I cadence a plagal cadence.

This is an odd topic for a parenting debate forum Razz

What do they usually call it? I learned it's a Plagal.

Yeah, you're right! Laughing Education? We are all kids? Um... I'm trying here... it's a reach.

I like to talk to people and I'm not real good online at keeping on topic. Laughing

Maybe I learned things differently. I learned it's name as the IV-I Cadence. That's how I learned all of my cadence's.

I tend to go off-topic all the time too. Guess we aren't a good mix.

Personally i'm not a fan of really common names, i'm called danielle and my sister is charlotte so at school we were one of 5 in our classes. My daughter's name is unusual but i don't care, i think it's pretty and it's not like i'm walking around calling her dog cr*p

My name is Martha and i've been made fun of for my name my whole life. I feel like i should give my kids name that are not common amongst 70 and 80yr. old women. I love the name Miley Jade for a girl which is uncommon but also original.. I also love the name Rayce Tyler for a boy. It has a lot of meaning to me and my boyfriend.

Along with the "hick" discussion... i will drive down backroads in my town (little tiny podunct town in Kansas) and see people in trailors putting huge catfish heads on their fence posts to keep the "bad spirits" away...it also helps keep the flies away from the houses.. i just think that's pretty hickish Smile
