47 And Pregnant For the First Time........... Posted: 07-09-07 13:01pm
All my life doctors have told me that I
could never get pregnant. Well, they
obviously meant not until I turned 47!
I've been divorced for two years, was
dating a man for two years who has
recently ended things, and now this. I've
been on medication for panic attacks for
approx. 30 years and have taken so many
over the counter diet aides that it scares
me to even think of having a baby.

Welcome to the boards!
Pregnancy can be scary at any age, but I
sympathize with you. Do you have any plans
yet about what you're going to do?
Please feel free to stick around! The
girls here are very helpful and
supportive.

No, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I
guess living alone and not making a lot of
money along with the medications I've
taken and have to take one of them in
order to fuction, is scary. I have another
doctors appointment next week so we'll see
what they say. I've always wanted
children but not at this age. I don't want
to look like a grandmother sitting there
watching a young child. But, I also don't
believe in abortion so that's something
I'll just have to deal with.

You will feel better after you see your
Doc. I would be scared too. But I think
one day when you have the baby and see
everything working out ok you will wonder
why you where even concerned. But if you
don't want a child at your age you could
always give it up for adoption.

I would definitely address your concerns
with your doctor(s) next week. Ask
questions about the medications you're
taking and their effects on your
pregnancy. It's possible that there are
others you could switch to.
One good thing about pregnancy: it takes a
little bit of time. You don't have to rush
to any decisions just yet. Take your time
during this pregnancy and weigh your
options. If you don't feel ready to be a
parent yet, you can look into adoption;
either open or closed. If you think you
would like to raise this baby but are
nervous about your situation, you can look
into different programs available to help
you and your new family.
Your doctor will probably have some
answers for you next week. Ask anything
that comes to mind - don't be shy! They're
there to help you. And if they don't have
the answers, more than likely they'll be
able to help you find someone who does have
answers.
And again, I urge you to stick around with
us. If you need a support system, look no
further!
