Can Pap Test reveal HPV and Types of cervical cancer ? Posted: 07-10-07 20:31pm
Upon going to the gyn for a consultation,
he didn't seem all that concerned where my
original doctor was quite concerned. She
called to tell me that all my blood work
and pap smear had come back fine for any
STD's; however, there did show up HPV with
the Types that are dangerous for cervical
cancer.
I trust her. She is a good doctor.
I know there is something wrong inside me
because I can feel it. I am a woman who
knows her own body and something isn't
right. Sometimes, there is even throbbing
and I want to believe things are o.k.
The truth of the matter is: my doctor
felt this was important. My former
boyfriend is happy as a lark as he thinks
he is off the hook for giving me
something. But, at the end of the day, it
is I, a real person, sitting here with
some possible disease this guy gave to me.
The mind can be strong, but, sometimes not
strong enough to protect against the heart
and desire to be with someone you care
about. And they can be bad news

Current medical status: Went to the gyn my
doctor recommened. He showed me the lab
results and said he is not even concerned.
He believes this is only abnormal cells
changing because he said it is a bacterial
vaginosis infection. For me not to
worry."
The main purpose of a Pap-test is to
reveal cervical cell changes that could
indicate cancer or more importantly
-dysplasion. Dysplasion is a precancerous
lesion that, in time, can transform into
cervical cancer. The great usefulness of
the Pap-test is that we can discover any
precancerous lesions if they are present.
Pap smears are also very simple way in
that we easily taking and test a
sample/smear during the procedure.
Pap-tests can also reveal some other types
of infections but that is not its main
purpose.
Pap-tests can’t evidence an
HPV-infection but can identify dysplasions
that HPV can provoke. HPV is revealed by
a PCR test. Likewise, other STDs are
revealed with microbiological and
serological tests. Some serotypes of HPV
are accused of causing precancerous
lesions and cervical cancer.
