Losing Hair!
Posted: 07-10-07 23:35pm

is my hair falling out?? About a month after giving birth, I been having to clean the drain after every shower and spend my days picking hair off my that has stuck to my clothing. What would be causing this? Is it something that happens to some women after giving birth? Does it sound like my body is lacking anything? Is there anything I can eat or vitamins I can take to stop this? I mean theres a handfull of hair I have to pick up after I shower. Could it be because I wear my hair up alot? I have worn my hair up for years and its never been this bad. I'm afraid Im going to lose my beautiful thick hair Sad Im trying to grow it back out like it was before I was pregnant. But now Im getting self consious.

I have this same problem. But i didn't just have a baby Smile This has occured all my life. I have very thick hair, and i think that might have something to do with it. I don't have a handful, but enough sometimes to clog the drain, and fill the tub up with water lol. And then when i brush my hair i get some more. I do wear my hear up ALL the time for work. But i too have been worried, but don't know what to do?

Everytime I give amelia a toy or put down a blanket for her, I have to check over them to make sure theres no hair on it. Im so scared Im going to go bald!! and I have to clean my vaccum cleaner brush thingy alot! It gets wrapped around the brush of it and wont suck anymore. I have to do this like every 4 vaccums!! Its so embarrassing when I have to pick hair off of me in public.

This happened to me last year. I asked at the hairdressers and they told me its just because my hair was so long It was much more noticable. Didnt sound right to me, but I had them cut it short to my shoulders and Istopped noticing it falling out. So I guess they were right.
I think its vitamin E supplements that are good for your hair, skin and nails. Not 100% sure.

it's normal after giving birth. your hair doesn't fall out as much when you're pregnant because of certain hormones. that's why women can get nice thick hair while they're pregnant but, of course, it all gets taken away afterward. i'm not looking forward to that. my hair has been so nice since i've been pregnant. Try not to worry hun, it eases off after a while! Mine was terrible.. I still lose some when I wash it but it's not half as bad. My hair is reeeeally thick (well, it used to be thicker!) & it's really annoying finding long red hairs everywhere. I even find them in .Jenny's nappy sometimes Laughing Don't worry though, it's only a temporary thing!

It's normal after birth. You take all those vitamins and eat so good when your pregnant, and then many go back to their old ways of eating and caring for themselves, so your hair falls out. I'm sure it isn't enough that it's going to cause bald patches. It's also normal for your hair to go through a massive growth spurt and then fall out.

wow, you learn so much about your body when you're pregnant. i just wanted to post this because some of you may be interested to know why it happens. i just read this on the babycentre website:

Here's why it happens. During pregnancy, changes in your hormone levels cause your hair to stay in a resting phase for longer, so you lose less hair on a daily basis. (You may have noticed that your hair seemed thicker than usual.)

After you've given birth and your hormones have settled down — usually at about 12 weeks after delivery — more hair shifts into a shedding phase. You may be alarmed to find hair coming out by the handful.

Normally, you lose about 100 to 125 hairs a day, but after delivery, you may be losing about 500 a day. This can be very disturbing, but try not to worry too much — you won't go bald!

There's little you can do about the shedding, other than to be patient. The shedding tends to be most noticeable when you're shampooing or brushing your hair, so you may find that shampooing less frequently or letting your hair dry naturally instead of brushing and blow-drying helps slow the loss.

On the other hand, it's going to fall out at some point, and you might prefer that it happen in private. Regular washing and brushing may help you avoid leaving a trail of shedding hair behind you all day. Try using a thickening shampoo if you feel your locks are getting too thin.

You may notice fine "baby" hair growing along your hairline at the top of your forehead once the shedding phase has ended. Having bangs can do a lot to camouflage this wispy new growth while it's growing out.

Within another six months or so, your hair should be back to its normal pre-pregnancy thickness, but you may find that the texture of your hair is never exactly the same. It may be wavier or straighter or more dry or oily than it was before pregnancy. This is probably due to the hormonal upheaval you've just been through.

If the hair loss doesn't seem to be slowing and you're still losing lots of hair six or so months after delivery, check in with a dermatologist or your healthcare provider. It may be a sign that you're low on iron, which is not entirely uncommon for new moms.

Oh lord, my hair loss after birth was ridiculous. And you all know how long my hair is. We found it eeeeeverywhere! We had to use draino on our tub drain every 3 weeks for months. Aaron kept finding my hair inside his underwear and joking with me that I must be doing things to him in his sleep. (They came from the dryer, sweetie.)

The worst was cutting the hair out of the spinning brush on our vaccuum. Sad

Im so glad its not just me! I mean I was getting really worried. Im hoping this will stop soon. My hair used to be extremly thick and now its so so. Not too thin but not thick like it was either. Last night I went out and bought some shampoo and conditioner to strenghten hair and less breakage. That may help a little since I know my ponytail is causing a little bit of it. But most of it is like its coming from the scalp cuz its the whole length.

Oh and .Laura, Joey has found my hair wrapped around the head of his penis. He isnt circumsized so I dont know how it could have gotten under the skin of his pecker lol. I dont go down there so maybe its from the dryer lol. Laughing

I have the same problem with my hair falling out. I even asked my friends about it and they said it happen to them too after giving birth. It must have something to do with our hormones changing.
