Ultrasounds are never 100% a sure thing as to the gender.
Some doctors offices now are not allowed to tell the sex because they have been sued for these exact reasons. People not getting what they expected.
The gender is never a sure thing. Your doctor should have told you this.

I wanted to find out what my fiance and i are having, but the nurse said they were unauthorized to say, but because we wanted to know it would be on the results...it never was. I dont think she was allowed to because they were sued before.

You just have to wait and see, and if you get what you were told, great and if not, be happy you have a lovely little life.
Some even say not to start buying things right away because it could be a wrong result.

I've been worried about the same thing! I hear these stories and I freak! I dont want to be one of the those people who get all excited thinking their having a baby girl and buy pink clothes and paint the room all girly, only to give birth to a baby boy! I really hope that it doesnt happen to you, but like I was told, we just have to wait and see. And yeah, try to hold off on buying things for a little, just so that you're sure that the results were correct.

what does it matter what sex the baby is though?
ask how long you have to return things if in the end you give birth to a boy....
but what should it matter? Shouldn't you be happy with what you get?

Happened to me and my best friend.
She was told she was having a girl, she even had a 3d ultrasound done.
She gave birth to a boy.

I was told I was having a boy and I had a girl.

I mean, you would think a winkie is either there or not...

It happens though. They are not 100%.

sometimes what they think is a boy part, is just the umbellical cord.
You can never be 100% sure.
but just be happy with what you get.

Girl parts look remarkebly like boy parts on an ultrasound sometimes. Umbilical cords can get in the way - but that isn't the main reason gender determination is difficult with Ultrasound.

My friend was told GIRL and out came a boy.

i would guess th main reason it is difficult, is because its not a clear picture, the cord could be in the way, it could be blurry too..
which is why they say its nota 100% sure thing.

my doctor had told us, if we see something there, it could most likely be a boy, but we were not told so we're happy with whatever we end up getting.

My last ultrasound technician was able to tell me what I was having, but she wasn't allowed to say "definitely" because there was always a chance she could be wrong. As long as they let you know there's no guarantee, I don't see how they could be sued.

When we were told we were having a girl and we asked "are you sure?" my ultrasound technician's words were "if this is a boy, he's a very unfortunate boy" because he didn't have boy bits. But even then she didn't say 100% that it was a girl.

My nurse that did mine..said.. I am almost 100% sure....after she was like wow!.. I was like oh lord...

At my 20 week ultrasound my daughter wasn't co-operating & the midwife just said she "couldn't see any boy bits" but not to go painting the nursery pink just yet. I only bought one dress, but for some reason other members of my family decided to buy pink things.. my gran even knitted several pink blankets! I asked at a later scan (about 34 weeks) if they could see the sex & the midwife said she was almost totally sure it was a little girl. It's a good job she was because when she was born they didn't do the whole "It's a girl!" thing.. the midwife went "did you know what you were having?" & I said "well I think it's a girl..."

4 u/s for me and all the dr.s said we have "good crotch shots"... out came a boy lol. i had a lot of girl clothes, some i returned and some i kept. i hope for a girl the next time around. my son is almost 4 months old now! i saw 3 parallel lines in all the u/s too and really believed it was a girl but not disapointed when out came a boy.

I'm with Zanny, nurse said 'don't go buying anything gender related yet!' but my ultrasounds came out right (girl), but I always had that 'it's not 100%' when I told people, so thank goodness no one bought anything until I had her!

I've heard it's possible to genetically test the gender (I think through amniocentesis) but of course it's risky, so I wouldn't want to get it done when I can just find out when it's born!

My wife and I have four boys that we LOVE and wouldn't trade for the world. After about 4 years we decided to try for a girl. We just had our 19 week ultrasound and were told it was a boy. We'll love him no matter what, but am just curious if anyone was ever told they were going to have a boy and turned out having a girl?

I've heard a lot about being told it would be a girl but it turns out a boy but haven't heard the other way around.

have you considered a 4d ultrasound for possibly a better view?

Well, we live in a very rural area and we were scheduled for our "one" U/S per pregnancy. They did do a 4-D but not when they were trying to determine the gender. They used the 2-D for that.

Are there any surroundign cities that do? Maybe it would be worth a short road trip? Baby bonding, hubbie/family bonding.. and an US to settle your nerves... Ive only heard it happening once amongst friends/acquaintences... and I was 100% that I was having a boy. but if you truly are worried and still want to plan for a baby you can go with nuetral colors and buy the majority of clothes after birth!

The closest city is Lacrosse which is where we had the previous U/S. I'm not really worried or concerned, more curious. I know that the odds are "against" us since we've had only boys so far. And of course we'll shower down the same amount of love no matter what.

From the acquaintances I have and from what I've read online, usually the U/S mistakes involve a prediction for girl that turns out to be a boy.

In your message you said you've only heard it happen once. Is that referring to the U/S being wrong - or that the prediction for a boy was wrong?

i have just gone for my 19 week u/s today and at the end of it, he said we were having another boy ( i have 2 already) I thought i would be ok with it, but i am actually shattered that i will never have the daughter i have always dreamt of having all my life..I was so sure i was having a girl and every other 'test' i did pointed to that aswel..Has anyone ever been told they were having a boy, only to later find out it was a girl?

Im in the same position - I have two beautiful sons and we went for our 17 week scan yesterday and the doc told us its a boy. I know that I should only be greatfull for the blessing of another child, but truth be told I am devastated. I cried all night. I have dreamt of a daughter all my life and now those dreams are shattered. I cant see myself having another one after this! My husband is upset with me, but I cant contrlo my emotions!
