It feels like I have a small marble lodged
in my abdomin wall under the belly button.
I can feel the ridge of muscle to either
side when I push in and in the middle is
this little lump. At first I thought it
was a cyst or swollen lymph node but it
does seem to expand when I cough. It's
under about 2 inches of fat and doesn't
stick up through the skin.
I thought umbilical hernias were more of
a soft bubble? This feels like a childs
boney knuckle protruding from my abdomen
wall.

A hernia is a sac of tissue and/or muscle.
Sometimes it's hard to feel them or
determine if in fact it is a hernia, it
sounds like it could be a hernia from your
description of when you cough. A doctor
who specializes in hernias can check or
your general doctor may check then order a
CT scan to confirm it is in fact a
hernia.
