First off I am typing this here because
she has been diagnosed with Multiple
Sclerosis. She's been having trouble
remembering things and talking. Often she
would stutter trying to find the word when
talking to me on the phone. But now it's
got so bad that she cant even speak
anymore. You know that feeling you have
when your in a conversation and you cant
remember a word but it's on the tip of
your tounge? Well it's like that for her
now but with ever other word. My brother
tries to hold a conversation with her and
she gets so fustrated and starts to cry
because she literally cannot remember the
words and would often say words that make
no sense. Does anyone know what to do in
this type of situation? I'm in the
military in Japan and my brother said that
she's in the hospital and the doctors are
giving her steroids but other than that
they don't know what to do. It's so bad
that she can't communicate with anyone.
No one knows what she is trying to say
now. She just turned 56 a week or so ago.
Please help.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) can affect any
part of the brain and that's why it can be
manifested with various neurological
symptoms including disturbed speech
(dysarthria). Symptoms come in episodes
(attacks). Symptoms vanish (not
completely) after several weeks
(remission) but new symptoms occur
(relapse) after some indefinite time.
Unfortunately MS is a chronic but also
progressive disease. Acute attacks are
treated with corticosteroids.
Immunomodulating drugs
(beta-interferon)are used to prevent
further attacks.
