Q: vomiting and contractions

So my last post was about a week ago, saying I was having contractions and not feeling well. So my husband and I went to the ER as I'm only 26 weeks along and contractions would not be good. So they ran some tests and monitored the contractions and sent me home saying it was a bladder infection. Fortunately i was not dialated at all so that was a plus. They gave me antibiotics to take for 7 days to clear up the bladder infection. The next two days I felt better, but then last friday, out of no where I spiked a fever and was vomitting uncontrollably. Every 15 minutes for about 4 hours and i eventually started blacking out, so again off my husband and I were to the ER, again she drew blood said it came back normal, and put me on an IV for the dehydration. They gave me some meds for the nausea and decided to hold me and monitor my contractions, after about 5hours and the nurse said that she was concerned about the contractions. After a few hours they came in real non-sholant and said to go home. Basicly just blowing me off. So the moral of the story is I'm still vomitting a lot, and running a fever off and on, still having burning when I use the bathroom, and mainly still having contractions every 5-10 minutes. I know there is something wrong and for whatever reason it seems to be impossible to get answers. How long can I have contractions that are gradually getting worse before it causes my water to break and then I have no choice but to deliver...does anyone have any suggestions, I feel like I need to do something for the health of my baby but can't get anyone else (DR"S and Nurses) to do anything about it.

Go to a different hospital/doctor if you feel you aren't getting care.

Is your cervix changing?
How high is your fever?
Are you still vomitting?
Can you eat?
Are you still taking your medication for UTI?
What do your release papers from the hospital say?
How many contractions are you having per hour? How far apart are they?
What do the instructions say about when to call the doctor back?

They checked my cervix both times i went to the ER and said that it wasn't changing that was the plus. My fever varies between 100.2-104 at the highest. I am still vomitting everytime I even so much as drink water I throw it up almost instantly. I've been trying to eat soup and light stuff but everything is still coming up. Yesterday was my last day for my meds for the UTI, as it was only a 7 day perscription. I'm having about 6-10 contractions an hour, most are pretty mild but usually about once and hour or so I get a really painful one that lasts about 30-45 seconds. I wasn't told to contact my Dr after being discharged. I've tried to get an appt with my Dr for the last few days and they say they don't have anything available until late next week (almost 10 days away).

Even in an emergency? You need to find a new doctor.

Your cervix isn't changing so that is good.

You never said what your hospital discharge papers said.

I would see about going to another emergency room in your area. They could provide you with more care. Plus this other hospital seems to already have the impression that nothing is wrong.

The first discharge papers said a bladder infection, and the second ones said dehydration. I went to the hospital I'm suppose to deliver at, cause my Dr's office is there and they have access to my file. But there all a bunch of butt-heads there.

any emergency room can gain access to your personal files. just go to a different hospital emergency room and explain the situation.

Is this the same fever type thing you had last month? What did the doctor say about that fever?

If your doctor still hasn't called you back, you need to go be seen at a different hospital. Marianne is right, they can access your medical records. Whatever they need to know, you can tell them though.

Last month they told me my fever was just a virus as it went away after a few days. I've randomly had fevers off and on through out my pregnancy, they said sometimes thats normal, as long as it doesn't stay high for long periods of time.

Did they test for a kidney infection? After a UTI after I delivered I had the same symptoms it was for whatever reason missed as a kidney infection later on and I got really icky like you are describing.

I have an appointment with my Dr. next monday, that was the soonest they could get me in. As of now nothing's gotten better, still vomitting pretty much everything including water. I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 5 lbs which is a little scary cause I was already kinda under weight before any of this started. Still having contractions, and still just feelin overall kinda yucky. If my fever gets real high again well probably just go to a different hospital. Unfortunately the meds for the UTI infection didn't really do much of anything. I guess until I can see a Dr. I'll just try to stay as relaxed as possible and take it easy. Thanks for your help everyone, if you have any other suggestions PLEASE let me know.

Yeah, we told you that you need to get to an emergency room.

If your UTI has travelled to your kidneys, you can have some very serious complications. Not just in your pregnancy - but in your own physical well being also.

Thank you all for your help. I went to a different hospital and they immediately admitted me. Hooked me up to an IV and started treating what was actually a pretty serious kidney infection. They were in shock at how the other hospital could miss it as every possible sign that could've been there was there. After a few days on meds and getting some rest I feel a LOT better. We did catch the infection in time before it compromised the placenta and hopefully caused no harm to my baby girl. I'm still gonna be on at home bed rest for a few days and takin meds for a while and really trying to focus on gaining weight as I lost a ton of weight and the Dr's not happ about that, but looks like we finally found the problem and can focus on being happy and looking forward to baby Rylee's arrival in august. Thank you all again for your support and help, your a life saver!

I'm SO glad that you finally took our advice and went to another hospital!
That's almost grounds for a negligence suit. Not saying you should pursue that, but it unbelievable that they weren't able to treat you or figure out what was wrong. How does a doctor miss something so easily diagnosed as a kidney infection? I mean, they only have to test your urine for that!

Anyway, I'm glad everything is ok. Maybe now that you are feeling better, you can focus on being healthy and stress-free for Rylee.
Good luck!
