Warm feeling in throat...
Posted: 07-20-08 11:42am

The last few days I've had a strange condition. It may have started after I ate some very hard food, that may have scraped up my insides, if that's even possible. For the first day I had a pain in the middle of the chest, just above where the ribs end, when swallowing. Especially hard food, like nuts or sour things like orange juice or lemonade. Milk would go down much more easily.

This subsided after a day or so, but was followed by a warm feeling in my throat. The sensation is very similar to what you would get after having eaten very strong food. Maybe slightly lumpy too, but not much. It's not at all like a soar throat you would get from a cold. I'm really not sure what it is, or if I should see a doctor about it. It's only been a few days, and beside the warm feeling in my throat there are no other symptoms.

I'm a 33 year old male. I'm gay, so don't rule out std's from oral sex, you usually would find in women. Wink I was also sick a couple of weeks ago with a cold, and a cough that lasted almost two weeks. The second week I had no fever, but the cough and soar throat took the whole week to get better. Though this was over a week ago, so I don't think it's related.

My current theory is that the hard piece of food I ate (I think it was hard cheese that had been overheated) and swallowed without chewing too much is the reason for this, but I'm not really sure. Any ideas?

If you had of 'cut' something whilst swallowing food there would be symptoms, if it were a bad cut there would be significant pain and/ or passing of blood that looked somewhat frothy. This however would not result in a 'warm' feeling in your throat. I would go get a STD screening as the warm feeling could be from preforming oral to someone with a strain of herpes. So yes I think you should go get a STD test and maybe get checked for internal bleeding if you believe you may have cut yourself, but remember it takes a bit to cut yourself internally ... think of how many people have swallowed tongue bars with sharp ends, and how many babies have swallowed god knows what with sharp points. Its probably nothing or a post flu symptom. Take care.
